I'm trying to take my rear wiper off my Bravo to take the motor off and give it a clean but really can't get it off! Its like seized on the thread I think. If the motors shot I'm considering just taking the thing off and putting a gromet in place of it or something, anyone done this?

Cheers,

Craig S (not the same Craig as post just below)

with the correct size grommet, yes you can.
I did this on my punto whilst I stripped the motor to un-seize it ;)

Hey bud,

I had similar probs with rear wiper on my BRAVO, it eventually stopped midsweep and died! I still had an intermittent live feed to the wiper which it should have as its an internmittent set up, but the motor was dead.

The wiper arm is held in place by a 10 or 13mm (cant remember) nut found under the lift up cover on the outside of the car, mine was a bit tight too, just spray the nut with wd40 and leave for 10 mins then just pull the wiper blade towards you when you are facing the rear of the car. I found that pushing down on the left side of the wiper blade with one hand and pulling at the nut end with the other hand the best way to get it off, you can pull on it as hard as you want as the wiper arm/blade is quite tough and it doesnt matter if you damage the motor is it will most likely be knackered anyway. I ended up getting the pliers on mine and it just popped off. Before trying to take the wiper arm off remove the interior boot trim panel so you can then see the motor, make sure the multiplug is in good condition and is firmly in place in the wiper motor, also check your fuses under the dash. If everything else is ok you need to then replace your knackered motor. With the boot trim panel off and the wiper arm removed, just undo the three allen key type nuts that hold the motor to the car, also remove the multiplug and pull out the rear screen washer hose. Thats it, now obtain your new wiper motor and refit.EASY.

I ended up getting a used wiper motor from an older BRAVA. The motors and the mountings for them are exactly the same, but the multplug which plugs into the wiper is slightly different. The both have 3 wires feeding the motor and they are the same colour so i just cut off the bravo multiplug and solder the brava one on. I then mounted the wiper and it works fine. I paid 17 quid for mine which was a good price, new from fiat are about 90 quid! But dont pay more than 25 quid for a second hand one, they come up on e-bay from time to time just keep your eye out for anyone breaking any age/model bravo/brava and make them an offer on their wiper!

Hope theis helps,

Tony.

P.S. Sorry for the essay am bored at work.

well, me and my old man just fixed mine ;)
it has rusted inside the shaft :(
as long as you can still here a clicking noise when you turn the rear wiper on you may be able to save it :)
30 mins work and its sorted now and it is insanely fast :)
All you need is a dad who knows what he's doing... (his words, not mine ;) )

Sorry to hijack this a bit. When using the screen washer should the back wiper work until the stalk is released? Mine has only worked intermittently when trying to spray it. I know its intermittent when used just to wipe. Cheers

if you turn the wiper to on, on the stalks it will wipe back and forth and then halt for about 5 seconds. if you spray between this period you will have to wait til it wipes again to clear it ;)

hope that clears it up a bit.

Cheers. That's how it works on my car but seems to be a pretty useless system.

it is, when you strip the wiper motor unit you will find how stupid they must of been when they designed the unit ;)

Cheers for that, I've managed to do everything but pull the blade off its spindle. I'll give it a good tug.

Cheers,

Craig.

keep wiggling it, it will come off, mine ws the same.
it will of rusted slightly on the spindle. spray a bit of wd40 on it and leave it for a couple of minutes to sort it and then have another go ;)

rear wiper things

my rear wiper isn't intermittant, it is either on or off. The motor has been replaced a few times before i had it and once when i got the car but it hasn't been intermittant when i have got it. Something to do with the wiper drive bits or is it an electrical problem.

Also my one way valve is either knackered or guncked up as it takes ages for the rear wiper to get spray when stalk is pressed in. Where can i find the one way valve and clean/replace it, how much is a valve if anyone knew off hand, don't go searching internet etc as its only a minor niggle.

Re: rear wiper things

mmmm, the wiper is intermitant via a relay I think.
On my old punto if you left the wiper-switch on the stalk ON it would just go back and forth constantly.
More than likely the motor is one out of the punto or the relay for the wiper motor is playing up. without my haynes I can't tell you which one :( sorry.
it takes ages for mine to squirt out the back (about 2 secs) jus tthe way the water is pressurised through the system I guess. non returnable water will sit in the tube until fresh water is pushed through making the old water come out if that makes sense ;)

on my punt the non return valve was in the engine bay behind the black cover which is near to where people stick their amp power cables through. might be the same on the bravo if your lucky.
Hope that helps a bit.

Re: rear wiper things

you can get a 1 way non return valve from hellfrauds for pennies too if need be.

wiper motor

my wiper also wipes the wrong way by default! i think the wiper is off some other motor that will fit a bravo. It was off the dealer i bought it off so he will have got what ever would shut me up for a wee while.

anyone know where exactly the non return valve is on the bravo 1.8hlx as in the haynes manual it aint clear for someone as stupid as i!

hellfords you say....interesting

Re: wiper motor

my wiper is parked on the left hand side when you look at the car from behind and then sweeps to the right and back to the left. if its the other way then 99.99% it will be a punto motor. as that parks the opposite way round.

Re: wiper motor

The non return value is located in the engin bay.

Near the passenger side A-pillar. It might be in behind the front suspension mount/pillar?. (Near the black box with 'FUSE' on it - at least on a 1.6 it is)

Easy to fit.

For the front it in actaully in the bonnet - behind the cloth stuff on the drivers side.

cheers for the info

cheers for the info guys, i think it is a punto wiper motor and i will look by the fuse box on the left hand side of the engine bay.
