General TRW airbag module

General TRW airbag module

v4.barchetta-lexikon.de mentions the German Company https://www.airbag24.de/ for resetting/replacing airbag ecu's.

To my limited understanding there were three TRW airbag modules used for the b. Best is if you can get the part number from the module itself, via MES, or through running your VIN-no in ePER. Unless you know the parts-replacement-history of your car, I wonder if it is not best to use one of the two first options. Once you have the number, you might get more accurate feedback from here and/or the internets.

This is the faulty module, and I hope I can find another one that’s working.

It seems the 46443798, can not be read/reset with any of the three MES 5.1 versions unfortunately. I believe I read that the ECU only accepts some five resets total (v4.barchetta-lexikon.de). This can perhaps be addressed via ECU software/hardware item replacement? ePER claims that 46443798 can be replaced by 46476309 (*claimed to be TRW MY97 (2s 2P)), if so the latter is compatible with MES.

ePER also claims both 46476309 and 46443798 could replace the older 46735061 (Becker) using a cable and bracket (#71713002 #46408465). If the translation didn't get it wrong it seems the reverse is true and to have been done by handle "Ich" in below link/thread. Becker is not compatible with MES either, but can be read and have faults erased without software (see workshop manual).

When searching for Fiat 46443798, a handful of individuals and companies pop up, offering to repair the unit, including in the UK. Henk from barchettaparts NL, claimed in 2017 to have the software to read and reset this ECU. airbag24.de offers 4-5 different jobs that they can do on it.

BEFORE re-installing a/the good ECU, address possible real hardware faults ("preferably" discovered in the ECU-reading). A faulty ECU, can report false faults(!), but will be discovered when connecting to/reading the ECU.

I am new to this forum but I need a replacement for my airbag sensor 46443798. This is the middle of 3 sensors per EPER. I bought the 1st one 46735061 but it doesn't fit so my questions are:
1. where do I go for a direct replacement of 46443798?
2. Does 46535343 (3rd one in EPER) work as a replacement for my one?
3. Can my one be repaired by anybody?

Apologies for vagueness - the garage has the car.

Welcome to the forum @DavidMull, the Forum and its members is/are a treasure trove.
Supposedly yes you can use 46735061, but you need to change the cable and bracket (the reverse of Fiat part #71713002 #46408465)
1. where do I go for a direct replacement of 46443798?
They are very difficult to find (someone somewhere compared it to finding Unicorn Poo...), try putting up and ad here, check eBay etc.
2. Does 46535343 (3rd one in EPER) work as a replacement for my one?
I'll let somebody else respond on this one.
3. Can my one be repaired by anybody?
Yes, from #8 above "When searching for Fiat 46443798, a handful of individuals and companies pop up, offering to repair the unit, including in the UK. Good luck and keep us updated on which way you go and how it went, same goes for OP @scallywag630!
