Hi, I have Barchetta 1998-1999 model, and having problem with airbag light.

I have read through the site, and found out the followings.

1. The first aid is to lubricate the yellow airbag connecters under the seat.

2. Use multiecuscan for detect the problem location.

3. Airbag computer (Change it or lubricate the connection.)

I have done the 1, and there was not changes. Then I found out the my airbag light is not "blinking" when I start the ignition on. This means that Pretentioner seat is not rightly working. So, I would like to know how to repair or do maintenance work for Pretentioner seat (sensor?).
Instruction manual of barchetta is warning that Pretentioner is no need to lubricate or do maintenance, and it can last only 10 years, but we need to do something when we don't have new part or saving cost.

Additionally, I would like to ask about the battery connection on and off. When I do all those connector works including yellow airbag connectors on and off, do I have to off the battery?

Thank you for your advise.

Akira

Hi,

First use multiecuscan as the light will not reset unless you do (even if the fault is fixed)

It will also tell you what fault is registered,

Mike

Hi Mike, Thank you for your reply. I actually bought following item at ebay from UK 2 years ago. I connected the cable, but there wasn't any information exchange between the car and PC. I was communicating with the seller of the MultiEcuScan via internet, and the place of connector was very much correct at below the passenger airbag and dashboard.

- FIAT USB 3-Pin OBD2 II KKL 409.1 Diagnostic lead Works With MultiEcuScan V4.9

I need to do act once again because the registration guy found out the problem yesterday although the last time registration process was successful without inspection in the dashboard.

So, do I have to buy the MultiEcuScan again to reset the system whatever the physical connection problem was corrected?

Akira

You will need run multiecuscan one way or another. I found the free version (unregistered) worked fine for detecting and resetting my airbag errors. I think this might be variable depending on the exact year and options fitted. Mine is a 99 with passenger airbag…

When making any airbag / pretension cable disconnection YOU MUST ALWAYS disconnet the battery and leave the car to stand for 10 minutes. The airbag ECU will retain voltage charge and detect when you disconnect a connector and log that as an error/fault.

Most Barchetta airbag warning lights are due to the connectors under the driver and passenger seats. Disconnect the battery and then disconnect check and electrically lubricate the connectors under the seats.

Having done this you will still ne MES or equivalent to reset the error in the airbag ECU.

Hi, Thank you for your advice. Disconnecting the battery, and waiting for 10 minutes. I understant. But for example, waiting for 30 min. is too long? or longer time waiting is more secure to make sure the system is reset?

On the Barchetta the air bag ECU will not reset if left for 1 hour or 24 hours. The fault is logged in the ECU's non volatile memory.

You need to find the source of the problem, fix it, and then have the fault reset with the likes of MES / other capable software/kit.

There are no easy / quick / tricks methods/hacks that reset the airbag ECU that I know of.

Hi all
i cannot get into my airbag ecu .... i have tried windows 10 and 8.1 ...nothing ( 1995car )

i have a vagkkl blue lead powered by a 12 volt motor cycle battery i have located port 3 on the lap top as connected to interface cable
i have tried multiecuscan 2 and 4.9

i have connected as follows

plug in blue lead /red light on lead lit up
switch position 3

connect to airbag ecu 3 pin cable the ecu cable ( the ecu cable does work because i have used it to get the blink codes up 6 )

when all connected with ignition on i press scan ,it scans for approx 30 seconds then it says....check interface cable ,i bought 2 cables from a specialist eu cable seller tried both on two different lap tops no connection.

could any member give me a 63 year old mechanical engineers idiot proof guide to how to get connected ,i have cleaned and hardwired the seat connectors and both seat pre pensioners are giving approx 2.5 ohm (one of the wires had rubbed through on the seat rail so i have made new wires

thank you Old Dear x
