Hi all

did and oil change earlier, got carried away and put 5 ltr oil in a 1.9 jtd.

new filter used. engine drained thoroughly.

dip stick looked fine, as did the dash 'sensor' on start up.

Now got a 'engine oil to high' message on dash.

whadda ya reckon, drain out .8 ltr or carry on driving ? (did 200 miles after change seems ok )

suck it or part drain it ?

Cheers

Simon

what does the dip stick read when you run it, wait 5 mins and read it?

most garages have a thing you stick down the dip stick and suck oil out, im sure they would suck a little bit out for you for a fiver (should be free really tho)

too much oil is bad so be careful.

TOO MUCH OIL?

Only had a 1.9/16v diesel for a matter of days! – but my understanding is the optimum oil level is 2mm under max. Can’t cite a ref. for that off-the-top-of-my-head – but I believe the reasoning for that is because diesel can get into the sump & inflate the level. Can someone confirm &/or cite a ref?

.

Trust the dipstick reading over the dash display.
Mine's been varying between 5 and 6 O's, and earlier today it gave a 'Low Oil Level' warning for no reason
Make sure the car's level when you check it.

Re: Too much oil 1.9 JTD

As has been said previously believe the dipstick over the meter reading, after having let it stand for a while on level ground and if you must reduce the oil level unscrew the filter and drain.

My oil reads ok on the dipstick. Sometimes the check is ok, sometimes I get an oil high warning others oil low and the bloody thing beeps at me and flashes a warning "Warning engine oil too low stop engine!"................Italian electrics!:)

That's the warning I got the other day when I stalled it in my drive (still not used to the huge clutch travel :p).
I've also had a 'Fuel Filter' warning and one other I can't recall now.
If you want dodgy electrics, get a Renault

just look at the dip stick, that's what you would have to do on an older car.

Hi Both my wifes and my Multipla give me this message they both have exactly the right amount of oil in
I have double checked drained and refilled I think sensor must be over sensitive .......
