Sometimes revs stay high with foot off the throttle. Also slow to return to idle. Switch off and back on seems to sort it. Foot pedal feels free enough. Any ideas?

Cable throttle or fly by wire?
Have you tried cleaning throttle body, IACV and MAP?
Cable. Throttle cable free and the plate opens and shuts without problems as viewed with air cleaner box off. Lubricated the circular valve where it is located in the throttle body. Also pulled a little plug off the throttle body and cleaned with contact cleaner.
What is the IACV and MAP?
Thanks

Lots of different causes

What is the exact symptoms

Intermittent

Hard fault

Starts.high and stay high

Start low and sticks high after the pedal push

Fails when hot

Fails when cold

Hunting up and down

And so on

Idle control valve icv

Oil on MAP sensor causes.irratic idle, rarely pegged high though

The problem is intermittent never when cold. Car always starts well. Air filter clear , air box connection rubbers good. The throttle cable is moving cleanly and returns without problems to its stop position.

So sometimes when I rev to say 3000 rpm and clutch in to change gear the revs don’t drop. Flicking the accelerator doesn’t help.

It sometimes slowly returns to lower rpm if I start going uphill .

If I stop and turn off for 30 secs then start again it clears it. I.e it doesn’t race straight up to 3000 rpm.

I will find the MAF sensor and clean with MAF fluid I already have.

That’s about all I can tell you atm.

Thanks

There's no MAF only MAP

It's to the right of the throttle body

On the black inlet manifold

I doubt it's the problem, but it's worth cleaning snyway

I will do this. Just been out in the car … running sweetly…. Even when hot.
Thanks for your help

Doesn't clear unless you switch off for 30s
Doesn't clear by flicking the pedal

If you have a scantool

You could.look at expected rpm Vs actual
Throttle angle
Icv steps
Inlet manifold pressure

But it's not something that rings any bells

Been doing it again. When it does it the revs rise to 3000 rpm sit there for 5 secs then return down to normal. Occasionally blipping the throttle sorts it when it’s such, Sometimes not. I guess it’s a sensor. Will put a diagnostic OBD reader on it. Will clean the inlet manifold sensor as well. Then it’s off to my car man.

While you're looking at the usual suspects (MAP sensor, airbox pipe, inlet manifold air leaks, throttle body, etc.) spare a few seconds to check the ECU plugs are properly seated and the nut holding the small earth lead on the ECU is tight.
Have seen similar symptoms from loose ECU plug and/or earth a couple of times now, usually after someone changes the slave cylinder.
