Just checked it again, 3656 is the code for the part number and serial number you've posted. The radio should be a Blaupunkt RNS3 TravelPilot.

How are you entering the code?

Have you tried or accidently entered a wrong code?

What did the screen show before and after you entered the code?

err as i turnt the unit on it comes up - - - - and i entered the numbers using the sat nav dial pushing it in when i was over the number i required.

once 3656 was showing on screen i hit the arrow at the end that looks like next line key, it then said in big letter "safe" then underneath that "wrong entries: 1" and then 2 as i tried it twice.

This is the instructions I have:

Switch radio on - Display shows "FIAT" then "CODE".
Rotate right tuning knob to select 1st digit of code. Press right tuning knob to enter.
Repeat for 2nd, 3rd and 4th digits.
Once the correct number is shown, rotate right tuning knob to select "OK" and press right tuning knob to enter.

Not sure about the RNS3, but for most radios, "SAFE" means the wrong code has been attempted too many times. If it's the same for the RNS3, you need to leave the radio and ignition turned on for 2 hours or until the display shows "FIAT" then "CODE".

Yea, it happens exactly how u describe it (haha ur gd) must just boil down to the wrong code, maybe its been changed at some point in its life?

oh well new head unit it is . . .

If the CD-C numbers ar flashing green and red that want replacing aswell? they've been doing that the whole time even when the radio worked that still didnt

If it's a blaupunkt IDC-AO9 5 disc changer, it may need resetting:

Disconnect the blue connector from the CD changer or the radio. Leave it disconnected for at least an hour then reconnect it.

If the process works, you should hear the CD changer align itself.

Just bought a 2002 fiat punto and the radio just says "wait". It's also only going on 3 cylinders - but that's another story!! the Blaupunkt No is BP937215691919 - can i get the code for this? and if yes, how do you enter it as there is no handbook.
