General Test passed - now waiting for the Panda

Passed my test today at Worksop test centre and only got 2 minors! :D
Now just got to wait for the Panda to arrive and then the fun can begin
Were those 2 Morris Minors or did you run over 2 kids who were underage?:D
Sorry for that, congrats on passing, now stick to the speed limit and drive carefully, wouldn't want you losing that precious licence.

Well done! first time? I got 1 minor just to rub it in! ;) however it took me two attempts to pass anyway! The 100HP is an awesome car, you're very lucky to have one as a first car, my first car was smaller than a mini and had an 850cc 3 cylinder engine! and that was only in 2004! Enjoy the Panda.

Congratulations

Now keep your nose clean for 2 years (remember you can loose your licence for a measly 6 points in the first 2 years).

I envy you, my first car was a mk1 ford escort 1100 estate, and for those who remember that heap will know that it was designed for the 1.3 - ho hum snails used to lap me until I could get up to speed, then I used them to hold on to the panels trying to shake themselves free

Luxury, udtrev, my first car was an 1157cc Triumph Herald, circa 1967.
However, it was the fastest Triumph Herald in Blackburn at the time, I seem to recall.

Congrats, now you can start learning how to drive. Enjoy. (y)

That's nice..

Congratulations! I echo the comments about taking it easy, I remember that I drove like an idiot at times not long after I'd passed, when I think back I realise how stupid it was.. 'keep your nose clean' is good advice!

Hope you enjoy the car, you'll have some envious friends!

Congratulations on passing the test, well done. The 100hp is quite a nippy car, so just take your time to start with.....

Ive just bought one myself and its very addictive, I'm thinking of having the microwave/fridge/curtains Pack fitted to mine 'cause I don't want to get out of it at the moment...:D

Sounds a bit preachy, but that's very true.

Lessons get you though the test, but now you are on your own (y)

That first solo drive is going to be so special, but it's all about gaining experience now, gaining a library of experience to draw upon, all conditions, all the other muppets on the roads...

I doubt I have the understanding of how a car ultimately handles as well as TDQ, but I think the 100HP will be a forgiving, grippy friend :)

Congratulations on passing your test, and a great choice of car!!!! :D

Why is it every thread i see you commenting on, i find an arrogant, self centered, preaching comment similar that?:mad:

Maybe its just the way it comes across and isnt meant like that of course ;)

In TDQ's defense (if needed), the first words my driving instructor said to me on passing my test (back in 1981 by the way!) were: "Well done. I've taught you how to pass the test. Now you can go off and learn to drive" -- which is I think an almost exact repeat of TDQ's line.

Wise words indeed. And now, 27 or more years later, I'm still learning. The recent snow was a good reminder of the skills i'd not been able to practice for many years. Driving isn't an 'automatic' skill (like talking or breathing). And its not something you learn to do once and then forget (like quadratic equations!). Driving is like piano playing or landscape painting - something that can always be honed, and there's always something new to learn.

And, to rd27, as has been commented on before, by jumping in part way up the motoring ladder, you have in effect missed out what a skier would call the nursey slopes (bit of metaphor mixing there!). You've landed straight into a red run... beware: you'll be surrounded by more-practiced and less forgiving souls at that level. Knackered old Minis are 'avoided' or 'allowed for' by the practiced motorist. But a brand new 100HP will act as a lure and you'll be drawn into traffic light grand prix and faster-that-you're-used-to country lane chases before being able to follow TDQs advice. I don't mean to preach - just don't want anyone getting hurt. Gently... :)

indeed, everyone is always learning, no matter how long they have been driving :) passing a test and real world driving are two seperate things altogether imo.

best advice i can give without trying to sound preachy would be to always be aware of your limitations and no matter how good a driver you are, and how perfectly well you can drive, it doesnt mean everyone you meet on the road follows those same standards you are trying to set. real world driving is only 20% skill imo, 80% anticipation. other road users are more of a danger to me than i am to myself, as i drive knowing full well i have limited ability. without that, i would be as much of a danger as alot of idiots on the road, believe me, after passing your test, you will see some incredible stupidity on the road!!

as for TDQ, i get what is said and i agree with it on the above circumstance, my point is more how its said than what is said, its very easy on a forum to be misinterpreted. i've seen a couple threads that have broken into a full blown argument due to the wording of the comments that were undoubtedly not meant in such a decent way as her above comment probably was. it came across as arrogant to me, as have several other posts by her on other threads.

Like that, many have probably just been the wording, and its very easily done to be fair.

Bingo.

You definitely learn a hell of a lot after you pass, I completely agree! The comment could come across a lot better than it does though, not an uncommon problem, sadly.

Congrats on passing

I bought my Panda the week before I passed (3 years ago ) and have to admit I havent got bored of it yet. Its a great little car to have once passed.

Enjoy

By the way welcome to the best section on FF

well done, feels great to get the pass, and open up your world a bit eh? as i have come in late, i can only re-iterate what has been said before, and strongly advise you to take this as a starting point in what will hopefully be many, many years of learning, and driving pleasure. it's an ongoing, never ending process to master both the car, and more importantly yourself, in an everchanging environment. as i found out last year on my 2 week response course, all my bad habits garnered from 20 year of driving were cruelly exposed, torn apart and rebuilt, luckily the instructors were happy with raised vision, anticipation, and decision making processes i had also learnt. you will do silly stuff, we all do, you will make mistakes, and hopefully learn from from them. you'll also i trust have the common sense to realise that sometimes discretion is the better part of valour, and not try to learn the hard way!

the type of driver you want to be, is in your hands, and you've made a great start by picking out one of fiats best(y)

see you out there:)
