Hi,

I have got hold of a pioneer 10" 300watt sub and a JVC amp, not sure on the model or power but they guy gave me his wiring aswell so i got the red n white audio rear/sub out anr remote from the back of the head unit and the plus power from the battery with the fuse in the engine bay.

Wired it all to the amp correctly, The amp has front and rear input and output with a plus and minus for each left and right suggesting 2 speakers can plug in, so if the 6x9's are on that where does the sub go or can it not?

So i wired the sub into it splittin the wires into four so i have two plus and 2 minus forlet and right feed through the sub but there was very minimal power, is it because the wire i used to split it is very thin?

If you dont quite get what I mean Ill get some piccies.

Thanks

From what you've said, I take it the amp is a 4 channel, correct?

If so the best way to run it would be to connect the left front and left rear speakers to the front left amp output, and then right front/rear speakers to the right amp output. This will make the amp run at 2Ohm load.
Now you can bridge the sub on the 2 remaining outputs. I take it the sub is a 4Ohm SVC. This would also mean the amp will be loaded down to 2Ohms.

With out knowing what spec the amp is it might pay you to find out it will run at 2Ohm, but most amps are fine running like this.

Just re-read the OP and i think it's a 2 channel amp, if this is the case and the sub is single coil, then you need to find out which 2 terminals s you need to connect to. Do not run it the way you are now as i'm guessing you will fry the amp and possibly the sub running it like this. The amp may have a diagram at the terminals (or on the base plate) to tell you which ones are used in bridge mode.

If you cannot find this, let us know the model number and we can try and help further

Do not use system and send pics of set up.
You have connected the Earth wire to the spare wheel bay havnt you.
I was under the impression that you shouldnt wire normal speakers on cheap amps at 2ohms.

Im not sure on how many channels, Ive never used a car amp before however the 6x9's are working fine, I found wiring diagrams in the internet (google images) and wired it up its earthed to the rear left passanger seatbelt bolt which is directly onto the rear wheel arch should I move that or is it ok there? I havn't got proper wire for the 6x9's or the sub just some old speaker wire I had lying around, does the thickness of the wire increase/decrease the sound volume?

Will get pics tomorrow when its light!

Personally I would get rid of the 6X9s and run just the sub. As said earlier we need diagrams and model numbers/specs to help fully.

Yeah, probably is a 2 channel. Got a bit confused reading the post.

If so, options are as said above. Ditch the 6X9s or run them off H/U if you like the sound of them (personal choice).

But run the sub bridged off the amp. Speaker wire size will not be an issue, but use the largest size power and earth cable you can. As a rough guide the earth cable should be no longer then 18" and bolted to a clean/sound area of the floor pan.

Pics or amp specs would be a good help.

And we'll have you booming before you know it ;)

yes thicker speaker wire is best. if it is a 2 channel amp i would just run the sub off it (bridged) and maybe invest in another amp for 6x9's. for some reason nobody seams to like 6x9's on here and they will tell you to get rid and get some custom fit speakers but i've got some inphase 210watts rms 6x9's and they will kick all over any custom fit speakers.

LOL Inphase arent that bad but the above statement is not true, you may get a very loud scream but for sound reproduction they wont compare to components.

The reason why we advise not to use 6x9's is as follows.
1) Sharing the same space as the subs can cause damage to the 6x9's.
2) They are a cheap source of bass but once you have a sub this is not needed.
3) The sound stage for the Mid and the treble is supposed to be in the front and bass at the rear as this is the most musical setup.

I used to think exactly what you did but once you have a half decent set up you will know exactly how what sounds right and when it is wrong you will hate it.

yeah as 6x9's are on parcel shelf (cos I was given an acoustic stealth shelf) and the sub is in the boot the sound quality will go down slightly i would imagine but the 6x9's can be moved to the rear quarter panels, anyways that aside the amp is a JVC Power Digifine KS-AX504

as for setup, see pics......

Right you have a 4 channel amp do you need to connect one 6x9 to each of the channel on the side that says Front and bridge the sub onto the two channels that say Rear.

The Crosover on the Rear setting should be set onto HPF this should filter out all of the unwanted higher frequencies to the sub and i would personaly turn the knob back down to about 80hz.

Input level should be turned until you get distortion the set back a notch whilst HU is at the desired max volume that you will play it at.

I cant tell you what to do with the settings of the 6x9's as we need to see a picure of the setting that say front below them.

only problem is the red n white aux are only plugged into rear, as the HU only has a rear out.

Does that mean I can only have the sub or only have the 6x9's running from it?
Or can I split and plug the rear out on the HU into both the front and rear channels in the amp meaning I will have 4 channels and use the front ones for the 6x9's?

Have you tried it on the other channels just using the 1 set of RCA's sometimes it works. If not then yeah you can just split them if you dont want to buy a new unit. The quality of the signal wont be all that great but better thab what you are trying to do now.(y)
The reason that it doesnt sound good is because you are trying to play the same sound through the 6x9's and the sub (n)

That'll be LPF Stu ;)

Start at 80hz and work down. Assuming the front channel works the same, set it to HPF start at 80hz and try higher and lower to get it right.

The amp should work on all channels with just one pair of inputs, have a look for a switch possibly on the bottom.

When setting the amp up, start with all the gains on the lowest setting, headunit bass & treble on zero and any loudness or bass boost on HU or amp on zero.

THanks guys for your help, Its wired in and working now, Ive decided to leave the 6x9's on the HU and just use the sub on the amp for now, might play with it some more sometime. It woulds great and has the nice kick of bass I was looking (listening) for!

heres a pic bit dark now though!

got some gold plated RJC? splitters today so I can use all 4 channels on the amp and gonna wire in the 6x9 tomorrow, system sounds awesome as it is the bass makes so much difference but I dont want the 6x9's on the same wiring as the rear 4"ers so gonna stick them on the amp too. oooh yeah!!
