I see local bodyshops just wafting a heat gun around and then peel them off....

They are like a sticky stripe but theyve got a Glittery stuff on,

It could be a lot of elbow grease, a bit of light scraping and a lot of bug and tar remover job!
leave um on they make you go fast

It is common for removal of stripes and other similar stuff to damage or remove lacquer when removed. Heat is usually a key tool. But too much heat can damage the paint.
If they've been on some time, the paint underneath may be a different shade, so will always show. Hopefully not.
1. If you can talk to the previous owner, ask how they are stuck, or the source, to find out if the supplier has a removal process.
2. Ask at local bodyshops for advice.

I wonder if they've been lacquered over?
On a small portion of the stripe, try rubbing with cellulose thinners (or acetone) and/or panel wipe.
Report back.

ive tried a drop of neat petrol on them and they wont shift,
kettles of boiling hot water seem to get them to peel but its a slow process,
imight just scrap the bonnet and tailgate.. there seems to be plenty around on
ebay cheap enough so i might go that route,
bonnet is full of dents already so might be best throwing that to scrap,

Well, after peeling away,
it seems its not stripe but.. Laquer glitter and paint,
full respray time, :bang:

get new bonnet /tailgate
4 tins of mat black for all roof
should look good
might even buy a yellowperil next week myself for experimentations
8 valve mind,non of that 16 valve muck

its an 03 reg so it shouidnt look like its been married up with another one
if its mk2b' D" up,
thats the plan anyway,

like doing stuff like that
looking at fiat 132 today and remembered i debadged mine and absolutely no one knew what car it was
cant do stuff like that anymore,everythings bland anyway

problem is mk2 headlights border on dangerous
i come from an era of foot to the floor 7 inch sealed beams but my eyes arent what they were so need light, plenty of it

ive got used to mine,
but iagree the lights arnt brilliant,
sometimes when im out on the twisty lanes ..i find the front fogs come in handy,

just had alook at bumper on this, 8v
and it looks like someone's had it on a rope at some stage,
and towing bracket has been ripped off, pulled through bumper,
not the first one ive seen,

i fitted a mk2 crossmember in a mk2b (they are different) and customer complained tow hook wouldnt fit
