Technical Stop / Start System Weirdness....

Do bear in mind stop start batteries horrendously expensive. And that's just the petrol. Diesel maybe even more so. I admit I'm guilty of throwing money at cars fixing them. Eventually I gave up. We're all different.

Are they? Do you have a rough price please? Thank you

Around 3 figures for a 500 diesel battery. Have PM'd you anyway.

£87 from carparts4less with voucher code BEMINE(time limited) which is cheap

They do others too more expensive

Do measure the size of the tray before ordering as some are listed for ours that are too wide at 242mm ours more like 115mm height not an issue nor normally front to back

Thank you. I wouldn't have a clue how to change mine. Would a garage order in and change?

Provided you've checked it will physically fit, its child's play to fit, the black cable has a "quick release catch" just flick the leaver, does require a bit force, not sure without looking re the red will look in the morning, but seriously, as long as it will fit in the tray you CAN replace it yourself.

Thank you. Just got home from work and start stop worked as should when I parked outside my house (engine wasn't warm enough any of the rest of the way home when I had to stop at traffic lights etc.). Is this likely still a battery issue, or would it not work at all? ,

As the battery performance drops off over time(made much worse when its cold) the stop start will work less and less, re-starting sooner after stopping eventually not stopping at all, so it gives you hints that although the battery will start the car with no issues, it cannot guarantee that (the battery) can supply everything once the engine(and therefore generator "alternator") has stopped, modern cars are far more battery fickle than older ones.
Hope this helps.

That does help.

Say one day my car didn't start and battery had completely packed in, would it just be a new battery? The battery going wouldn't ruin any other part?

I see wil Fit do free battery testing. Might be worth me taking it there, however I'm worried they mug me off

Take what they say onboard, but don't make hasty decisions, just say thanks I will make a decision "soon" then ask around, a failed or flat battery rarely effects anything once it's recharged or replaced though if it's been drained by say letting the interior light on all the time it's future performance can be diminished.

Thank you. Is there anything that can be knocked off when having battery checked? Like can they stop something else working if not removed/put back in properly?

No, normally you just clip a large "clips" on each terminal and the meter reads the 'state' of the battery, like start (no load) voltage, load voltage and available current , recovery voltage after load is removed, then a overall assessment is given, though it's a pretty crude way of checking and a modern ss system is far more intolerant of swings in battery state.
Have them do a free check and take your time deciding.

Just to clarify, this doesn't mean my alternator is the problem does it? /'start stop didn't work on the way to work again this morning. However it is only a five minute drive and I didn't stop at traffic lights at all today, just when I parked. And the engine was just a wee half quarter off of being hot enough. Start stop worked, then 5 seconds later it didn't. Weird.

Thank you. If it was clutch or gear sensor, it would be likely to do it all the time would it? Whereas just now it's in the mornings and works at night?
