General stilo top speeds!!

General stilo top speeds!!

20k a year not all that much, to be honest....

I cover 11k a year purely on commuting to and from work; this excludes going out to see clients during day, evening driving and jaunts, weekends, holidays, etc.

Maybe driving a 2.4 wasn't such a good idea ;)

when we compare the performance of the 1.8 to other 1.8 cars we should not forget how silent this Stilo engine is and this can be a bit misleading from inside the car...you can assess the full power of 133HP only if you use an outsider professionally measuring your times etc but from inside the cockpit it seems slower than other cars only because is less noisy and more comfortable...the 1st day I drove the Stilo 1.8 (not mine but another one for a test-drive) I thought that this car was too slow for a 1.8, I could not even hear the engine (scary!), then when I looked at the speedometer I could not believe my eyes@: the feeling of speed is distorted, it seems always a lower speed than the real one because the car is very confortable and the engine extremely well isolated both in terms of vibrations and noise.
I had more then one person in the car as passenger who asked me if the engine was still on when I stopped the car for something and the engine was always on but you cannot hear it: at higher speeds the noise is not as you would expect, it is sensibly lower, and our brain often, incorrectly, automatically links the speed to the engine noise.
This 1.8 performs excellently and it is very silent.

my car is a 1.6 dynamic 3d totally stock nothing done on the engine and managed on the highway a top speed of 215 kph but the consumption skyrocketed to 18l/100km

I remember being forced back into my seat in 2nd gear in my RS Turbo, which had 132 BHP (1.8 Stilo has 133). I suppose it must be the torque. I also had a 130 BHP Cavalier, and a 140 BHP Rover 220 Gti, both of which felt much faster in 2nd. In all gears come to that.

Weight my friend, weight! Most of the cars you have previously owned weigh quite a bit less than a stilo, including the cav. This is at the expense of safety features eg. side impact bars, airbags etc. The fact is modern cars are heavier than ever. The rs turbo weighs about 950kg, which is less than the new ford fiesta!! My Nova Gsi actually felt as fast as the coupe as it weighed roughly the same as a rizla paper. I know which one IS the fastest though!!

Mine performs Ok but isn't very quiet. You must have got a good one.

I can believe that.

i get that quite a lot when i stop everyone in my car says have you still got the engine on. They are very quiet but i like it :D

I would never criticise the Stilo engine noise: I think Fiat has achieved an outstanding result in terms of noise reduction inside the cockpit: when we are stationary we cannot hear anything at all!
I was only trying to say that the Stilo 1.8 is less noisy than other 1.8 engines and this reduced "presence" of the engine power in the cockpit can easily give the wrong impression e.g. the speed from inside seems less than the real speed because of the absence of noise.

Wouldn't say the 1.2 is silent when stationary, but then you only hear it if you turn off the car heater fan.

I noted one day that at 70mph you can't hear the engine at all, pulling it out of gear and coasting has makes no difference. Its a shame, i like the Stilo wing mirrors, they are very small, but they still create a lot of wind noise.

when im stationary, my sky sunroof, interior screen shakes and makes a slight rattle... coming to think of it, any abarths gone up to 155???? on a track or summit? or on an empty motorway..

Had the Abarth up to an indicated 140 last night, on the M45 towards Cov - I then bottled it, coz saw traffic ahead - but reckon I could have squeezed more out of it; I wasn't on the limiter.

I eased back to 120 and it seemed very slow :)

Well guys i think i top it all

last night after a lil GSR meet in london, i manages to take the stilo of the clock last night, but this was obviously not o the road and on a private track because that is very dangerous.

I ahve a fiat Stilo 1.9 jtd lowered 35mm on 17"s with a nice remap made up from the obd tunning software which i sell.

i was racing my mates HGT who topped out at 138mph whilst i was able to go over the 145mph clock limiter! could not believe it i have never felt so much adrenaline pumping it was a whit knuckle ride!

I can now say i do have the fastest stilo going!

anyone beat that???

Jonppaul

You must have been at nearly 5000 rpm.

I'm sure some of the Abarth guys have matched that mind ;)

So what are the stats for your car then? Torque and power?

Re: Jonppaul

i wont have any figures until i get it on a rolling road, which will be soon hopefully.

It was a map that augusto made up spur of the moment, something that is in the development stage, but we will see, she was just into red.
