General stilo top speeds!!

The acceleration video is mine. I have a 1.8 and my 2nd gear tops out at 62 mph. I have no idea how you managed to get to 80 mph, but whatever you did, more power to you :). The top speed in a straight line for my car is 215 km/h w/ 98 octane gas and 210 km/h w/ 95 octane, according to the speedo. Based on the tire diameter and rpm calculations, the speedometer is off by about 5 km/h at top speed. So the Stilo actually does 210 km/h with 98 octane gas. This was evidenced by the fact that a C-DTI (spelling?) Accord could not gain an inch when we went all out on an expressway (very little traffic, mind you). And yes, the 2nd gear is awesome, too bad the 3rd gear is spaced too wide apart. The 1.8 should have a 6-speed tranny. No matter, I´m getting my 5dr Multijet in less than two weeks :))

There was a link to a vid posted here of th Stilo 0-60, unsure of the model but you can here him changing into third then the passenger says stop so unless you have a Lamborghini lump in you Stilo then 85 seems very unlikely.

Just incase anyones interested I'm sure the Diablo does 70 in 1st!

Excellent!

Yes most supercars do the sixty sprint in first. Including the mclaren f1. Imagine rocketing to sixty without having to change gear

I bet apierdomi can vouch for this in a...
You guessed it - 1.8 stilo dynamic :D :D

Did 110mph in my 1.2 while listening to Frans Ferdinand. I was so disgusted with my driving conduct when i realised the speed i'd been doing i continued the rest of my journey doing 40mph! ;)

110mph is too fast, but hey i've got a 25 miles private road. :/ Pulling 4000rpm in 6th, so although it may have been maxed out, i still had 3000rpm to red-line, so the car wasn't revving its nuts off.

I've got a 1.8 and there's no way in hell a standard 1.8 would do 80 in 2nd.
I'm gonna try and do 60 in 2nd tomorrow, but I can't see it happening.
I would say general performance is OK, in any gear, I wouldn't say 2nd was "awesome".

daft, the passengers might think otherwise about the awesomeness of the 2nd gear :D The top speed in 2nd is in fact a tad over 60. The 0-62 video, though, was timed until the needle reached 105 km/h, in third.

Correction: the 1.8 easily reaches 85 kmh, which is 53mph.
Max speed I have reached in kph using 2nd gear is around 100kmh (+-0.1) which should be around 62mph ( and not 85mph, sorry).
Then max is 2nd gear is 62mph (just around 100kph).
Thanks.

Heres a simple way to determine your true top speed.
Given that the rev counter is fairly accurate, if you know the mph/1000 revs in any gear then simple multiplication gives you a more accurate speed.
I think the 1.8 does about 21mph/1000 revs in 5th gear therefore at 6000 revs it is travelling at about 126mph.
This is more accurate than relying on the speedometer.
Hope this helps.

Just got in. Did 60 in 2nd and 90 in 3rd. The rev limiter seems to come in pretty soon though, at around 6,750, where the red starts (I think) . I would have expected to be able to take it into the red.
Anyway, the thing it matters is the time taken to get there, and it's OK in the sense. Not great, but OK. I remember being forced back into my seat in 2nd gear in my RS Turbo, which had 132 BHP (1.8 Stilo has 133). I suppose it must be the torque. I also had a 130 BHP Cavalier, and a 140 BHP Rover 220 Gti, both of which felt much faster in 2nd. In all gears come to that.
I'm not complaining, I'm happy with the performance, as if it was any faster I wouldn't get 36mpg, which is pretty important to me at the moment. I've done 20,000 miles in 13 months, and putting petrol in is crippling me.
