Both our Stilo's gloveboxes work perfectly (well, mine was perfect when it went), and both were 02 build dates - just have to be careful and not push it up hard!

The R/H hinge snapped this morning on my 54 prestigio (5dr abarth revision).
Have tried to glue it without my success due to the awkward sprung-pressure of the hinge; not to mention the difficulty in applying consistent pressure whilst the glue cures.
Did not realise it's a possible warranty job - mine is 3 years old in december. Do you think i have invalidated this now by spreading contact adhesive over the fracture?
As said above, not too big a problem, rarely use it - due to the inconsiderate location of the changer negating the benefit of it being refrigerated!

The fact that you have attemped to repair it I think invalidates the warranty
You could argue that it was broken before your repair, and seeing as you are entitled to repair your car, it doesn't invalidate the warranty.
Argo - yeah, I always opened it evenly and never had an issue.
Surely guys, taking out the bottom glovebox and top liner will allow you enough access??

im the second owner of my 3dr 2003 stilo, and its fine.

Mine was stiff, I was a bit rough with it and now its broke
@ PNL probably made the hinges from reconstituted risotto so it don't puncture the air bag when your passenger is about to be merged with the dashboard/windscreen area of one's Stilo - like what a metal hinge would
... but this doesn't help heavy handed clumsy ass brummy like me DOH!!! :bang:

FIAT would have no doubt reviewed the design after warranty claims came in - as they did on the Throttle Body (new actuators and programming), Headlights (new cap as many were replaced due to condensation), battery tray (charges for labour could be reduced by simpler and better design, not to mention D4 issues), brake light switch . . .
Therefore, one presumes that it couldn't have been done differently, or else it would have done to save costs.
So just as an example ''I need to fabricate a bracket and do so out of say plastic and fit said bracket and Oppps lo and behold it snaps after minimal usage :bang: well never mind I go back out to my workshop and make another of the same material and spec and lo and behold once again after minimal use it snaps again :bang: so out once again out I go to my workshop and :idea: I make it out of different material and hence it doesn't brake :slayer: Nahhhh sod that I rather liked it when it broke as it only took me 6/8 hours to make it after all :bang:

So you're suggesting Fiat would have preferred to have fitted a metal hinge (because they don't break and therefore wouldn't need to be replaced) but had to fit a plastic one for safety concerns?

To be perfectly honest I really don't know - all I know is that, with the number of modifications FIAT perform to their models (the Stilo started around the 6000 point and ending with about 11000, obviously this range applies to all other FIAT group vehicles during the production run) shows that they do act on feedback and alter designs.
Maybe metal on plastic would cause added creaking? Or because the airvents being near could cause the metal to expand/contract (especially as the upper glovebox is used as an airconditioned unit) and could cause problems?
No idea.

Its interior trim so unlikely to be covered by 3rd year warranty.
I was also told the same by another D.E.T and these are the caliber of technicians that should be carrying out these kind of jobs ..as good as the techs are at the dealership where I go they clearly didn't have a bloody clue which way to turn when faced with this one
