General Stilo MW faster than EVOVIII

The title of this thread is silly lol, it's about as useful as me saying I beat a BMW 325 on my bike, the fact it chose the wrong lane at a roundabout is irrelevant ;)

it was fun to watch. both cars were doing 30?or 40 i think in top gear then both floored it and the marea just sailed away. they were on a 1.7 mile run way and the evo still dint catch it up complelty, although it was gaining at the end.

Marea? thought it was a stilo ? :)

not seen it yet, may try watch tomorrow if I remember

Forgive me for being stupid. I understand turbo lag to the point that, the turbo cuts in at a certain amount of revs, but does it also cause the car to be slower up until it cuts in or is it just geared in such a way to make the most of the turbo.

Neo, that's not really turbo lag. Turbo lag is caused by the fact the turbo is spun by exhaust gases. At low revs the exhaust gases are low and hence doesn't provide much power to push the extra air in.

Sort of a catch 22 - you can't get the extra power without extra exhaust, you can't get extra exhaust until you get extra power if you get what I mean? Hence the lag. The evo's turbo is so large that I guess at low revs in a high gear there's no torque?

Anybody feel free to correct me if i am wrong.

You'll find a car with 400bhp out of a turbo'd 2litre will have about 20% of that power available at 3000rpm! The rest arrived above 4000rpm! ;)

Cars with decent torque low down are quicker to pick up in gear! Which is why the JTD will do well if your in the wrong gear at low rpm.

Stiloboy...

You are obsessed with JTD and soot!

My car will only belch soot when I REALLY boot it and the car hasn't had a good thrash in a while ;)

At 40mph, in 5th I would have a short initial lag, before moving off nicely, though the surge forward would come at around 50mph.

But then your stilo doesn't have a huge turbo like the Evo, Hence it being able to produce boost quicker lower down the rev range :)
Which in a way is good but smaller turbos are limited to how much boost they can produce, and your's being a deisel, you'd have to change gear at 3500 as there seems to be no more power after that lol

My car is totally different, I know I couldn't compete with an Evo, I was just meaning there is still a little lag with mine ;)

I find it pulls to 4k mind :D

Re: Stiloboy...

I'm not getting my nice light coloured car covered in the crap out your exhaust! ;)

Anyhoo, whats this mince boasting about your car reving to 4k, even my crapola TDi Escort pulled to shy of 5k. I'm glad my 1.2 pulls to 7k, it might not be massively quick 0-60, but at least it feels good when i ring its neck.

TBH, it doesn't really matter what the revs are at, its what you are getting out of it that counts. I'm sure an escort TDI could sit and rev at 5k all day, but a JTD would still leave it for dust. Personally,I don't like having to rag a car to get anywhere, I like the way that I don't need to rag my car to get anywhere ;)
