Hi all,

Hoping you can help! I recently purchased my first car, a Fiat Stilo JTD Dynamic, 1.9 Diesel (51 Plate, 5dr) and I'm having some problems with it.

I come from a long line of Fiat owners so I know Fiat's are good cars but this one seems mega problematic.

the problem is this - the heater in the Stilo is a climate control one but it's not working correctly. Everything works as it should (i.e. the fan makes a noise and adjusts, the buttons all work correctly and you can hear the blower change when you put it on the feet/screen etc) but there is basically no air coming out of the vents. Regardless of where the air recirculation setting is pulling air from the outside or recirculating the air, nothing comes through.

I took the panel underneath the glovebox off to have a look and see if the motors and cogs are working and, with the help of a friend, tried all the different setting etc & everything was moving and shaking as you would expect but still no airs comes out of any of the vents.

Finally, the car went into Fiat last week due to having an ABS/EBD/ESP warning light on the dash all the time and I asked them to have a look at the blowers, they said that, on the diagnostics, everything is working correctly so the only thing they could do is replace the heater motor and fan for £370. In my opinion the fan etc is working because you can hear it going but I just don't know what is going on.

Anyone had similar problems? Can anyone offer me any advice?

Any and all suggestions will be gratefully recieved! :worship:

Thanks

Dan

Hi Davren, Thanks for the welcome & response!

I haven't checked the pollen filter as yet because I thought if the air was being recirculated in the car (as opposed to drawing air in from outside) then it would not go through the pollen filter.

Do you know if that's the case? I hope I'm wrong because that would be a quick and cheap fix!

Cheers

Dan

Cabin filter is immediately in front of the fan
Wouldn't be too impressed with your Fiat dealer if they recommended new heater fan without suggesting inspecting cabin filter

Thanks for the responses gents.

Richydraper, totally agree with you. I was just asking for my own knowledge more than anything.

Thanks Deckchair5, yeah i wasn't too impressed especially as they hadn't even looked at it.

Everyone avoid Research garage in Nuneaton!

Agreed! My first Stilo test drive was with them and the guy was not helpful at all ended up getting the same thing from London even though I live in Cov!

davidthelodge had probs with them while trying to get his turbo issue sorted before a remap.

Sorry off topic ;)

Is it just the vent on the dash that get no air? does anything come out of the foot-wells?

Update on this one.

Basically, I finally got around to getting a Pollen (Cabin Air) Filter (10 quid off Eurocarparts.com) and today I finally got around to fitting it.

Pretty fiddly job for a man with as big as mine but I finally got that sucker in and all the bits back together. Got the engine on and, eureka!, the blowers worked absolutely perfectly.

A massive thank you to everyone who helped point me in the correct direction. Saved me a lot of time and effort with garages.

For anyone who is interested, this is actually the first time I have ever done anything mechanical on a car and the Pollen Filter is relatively easy to change, take it from a complete novice!

Thanks again!!
