Technical Stilo Headlamps - Beam allignment / Pattern / Adjustment

Well I can't get pics to upload i'm affraid! Site is gubbed! Cant insert into post, or stick them in my gallery!

Ok, not to worry. Ta for trying though (y)

Will check bulb as I say. When adjusting level against a wall done the stand in front of each headlamp thing, and as I say, its of O/S that duff.

Jon.

After my accident, they replaced both headlights. I haven't really given it any thought until now really, but the headlights seem to be pointed waay too down. With them fully down, I can only see 2 meters in front of the car. I know I'm only suppose to keep them fully down with 5 people and maximum weight in the boot but this is ridiculous. When I went to my home town the other week in complete darkness I found it dangerous to drive even with 30 miles per hour.

Here are some pictures to see what I'm talking about.

Headlights adjusted fully down:

Headlights adjusted fully up:

My Question:

How do I set them higher? I don't want to blind everyone just set them so I can at least see 2 cars lengths in front of me..

I can see 2 leveling rods. I presume the longer one adjusts the vertical beam pattern. HOW do I set them? Do they unscrew like a normal screw? I only tried to move them with my hand (screw unscrew) but they seem really tight.

The headlights are brand new, so I presume it is unlikely the rods will break now. I just need to know exactly what I'm doing. They gave me the wrong headlamps anyway and they will be changed in about a week or two, but I'm taking the car on holiday and they need to be adjusted properly.

Assume you've checked the adjuster on the "MODE" panel for adjusting the height of the beams?

Below is the eLEARN diagram for the white adjusters on each headlamp.

They are usually quite tight and you'll need an 8mm 6 sided socket or spanner to turn them with. A 12 sided socket or spanner is likely to round off the hexagons on end of the screws.

I cant remember which way the screws turn for up/down and left/right. Park the car in front of a wall with the lights on and experiment.

I just came back inside. I tried adjusting them but it seems nothing happends when I unscrew or screw them. I must have turned them at least 50 times and nothing. Beem pattern exactly the same. They still turn hard so they aren't broken, headlights are brand new, what am I doing wrong?

If nothing is happening when you turn the screws. It would suggest that the screws are not connected to the adjuster mechanism inside the headlight. There's a ball on the end of each screw that pushes into a spherical socket on the mechanism. Strange for all 4 to be disconnected though.

There are 3 posts, 2 one colour and one another, the single you don't touch as that adjusts side to side movement, you just want the other two for up and down. Be prepared to take about 45min to do the pair properly though depending upon what sort of access you have behind the light units.

3? where's the third one?

Vlad's picture and the eLEARN diagram above only show 2 and there's only 2 on each of my headlights.

If you did it with the car parked close to a wall then you'd see very little movement of the beam for each turn of the screw but you said you'd turned the screw 50 times. I didn't think there were that many threads in the screws.

If you turned the screws anti-clockwise (looking from the back of the headlights) too much, that may have caused them to come out of the adjuster mechanisms inside the headlight.

I did it on a clear road so I can see the beam pattern rising. Indeed if I screw it it doesn't go more than 10 times or so but I don't really see any major improvement. Or maybe something does happen, but the big improvement should come from the headlight adjustment screws, which is a bumper off job.

Anyway, they are acceptable now and I will go on vacation with them like this. They need to change my headlights anyway so I will tell them to be careful on the beam pattern when they do.

Thank you very much to all for your help.

The garage should have set the beams correctly as part of the accident repair.

When they fit the correct headlamps, tell them to adjust the beams before putting the bumper back on. That way, if they can't get enough adjustment with the white screws, they can adjust the 3 headlamp mounting bolts.

Well they also should have not scratched my car, or leave it in direct sunlight so that I have no lacker on the roof, or keep it 3 months in service, or order the wrong headlights. But this is Romania and things are not done as they should be. :)

Now that I got back from Greece I just want to post a quick update for all you fellow members out there. The 1st adjustment rod DOES NOT control up and down movement but left and right. Oh boy my car was illuminating the nice bushes across the street and into the face of everyone coming towards me.

That is why I wasn't seeing any improvement, because the beam was going left not up. I did not try to move the other one now, but I did put them back to where they were before by undoing the modifications. :)
