Technical Stilo CAN Bus Question

Different cars use different versions of CAN, the stilo uses 11bit CAN/ 50K for interior can and 11bit/500k for motor-can, whereas say the grand punto uses 29bit CAN @ 500K for interior can.

Dan

Hi Dan,

If the Grand punto uses 29bit CAN its quite likely that the CAN ID might be different to the Stilo and possibly the whole message content. Hopefully YellowStilo might know more, I know he used to have an examiner but I'm not sure if he still has.

No probs,

also if you want anything testing give me a shout, ive a couple of different elm interfaces and access to two other stilos as well as my own, plus i practically live in bradford so if you wanted to do any testing on another car ('03 abarth) i cant be that far away.

Good Luck

Hi Dan,

No problem, what is the default baud rate for the Elm adapter communications, is it 9600 ?

Hello Philip,

the service reset code for the Stilo is for Visteon instrument clusters, i'm not sure if the same command is used for other models.
As Dan already mentioned the CAN bus configuration isn't the same for all newer Fiat models.
I still have my Examiner Smart but the software is upgraded to 6.40 only which is from december 2005.
I only have my own Stilo 1,6L 3d. to test it , maybe i could get some extra info out of my friends Stilo which is an Abarth 5M.
I will send you (PM) the instrument cluster test command which includes a gauge sweep as a start, depending on the most wanted features i might be able to supply some more codes.
good luck with your program,
yellowstilo

Ok,

For all those monitoring this thread, I have written the bones of the application mentioned, it allows a diagnostic dashboard sweep and allows the resetting of the service counter. However until I have had the software tested by my two Beta testers and I have come up with a way to restrict its use to members who have donated to this forum I will not release the software to other users. Feel free to contact me, Dan or YellowStilo with any feature requests.

if you cant secure it for forum users why not just have some message that pops up when you open saying where it came from and if you paid for it you've been ripped off as you can download it for free from here.

That should make it pretty difficult to sell!

Hi John,
niet zo ongeduldig zijn hè ! (be not so impatient my friend haha!)
At the moment Dan and me are beta testing the developments of Philip, instrument cluster test/gauge sweep and service reset works for both ELM 327 and Peak PCAN usb interface, a viewer for the CAN messages works for the PCAN interface and the terminal function for the ELM works but a feature to keep the diagnostic session alive has to be added to be able to enter your commands at ease.
I just send some suggestions for improvement to Philip.
I guess Philip will get back here as soon as the first version program is ready for use - maybe he will have to discuss the possiblities to make the program available for donating forum members with the forum staff....
I did not receive any suggestions of forum members for future features, if nobody sends any wanted features i guess the program will just offer the features already mentioned...
We will keep you informed,
yellowstilo

my post # 27 only lists the (im)possible options of the CN+ CAN message, so theoretically it would be possible to compose a message which contains the complete setup of the CN+ and send it without a present CN+ to be able to change the settings.
regarding the other options you mention i'm afraid i can't help you....

just to keep you informed - i'm still beta-testing the changes i'm suggesting to Philip - at the moment i just tested his version 1.11 and still encountered some bugs and reported back to Philip - once the V.1 runs without major problems i guess Philip will make his program available for donating forum members (but that's up to him, i'm just his beta- tester....)
The current test version has a terminal for the PCAN interface and for the ELM327 v.1.3 interface which make it possible to enter your own (diagnostic) commands.
The PCAN terminal has a filter function, can copy incoming messages to the transmit field and can edit transmit messages.
The service reset and instrument cluster test/gauge sweep already worked with the first test versions - i also asked Philip to implement the time setting option (with absent Connect Nav) but i'm not sure if this will be added to the first released version.
I will report our progress if it takes some more time before Philip releases his first version,

You need an ELM327 version 1.3 or another CAN interface so you can send the correct time set message. If your near leeds I can do it for you.

Failing that someone on the forum is selling a connectnav+, might be worth getting an offer in on that rather than buying all the diagnostic stuff.

Any progress or conclusion to this yet guys?

Dave.

I havent yet tried the latest version of philips software as my laptop hdd has died and the only other machine is a desktop. But the older version worked absolutely fine.

The software is looking very good, but I think there is just the matter of sorting it for donators only that Philip is currently working on.

£1500 is for a reconditioned one from Fiat, a new one is more like £3000.

Dave.

yikes thats almost what i paid for the car!!

i guess a 2nd hand one is still going to cost me several hundred at the very least.

oh well guess i'll just have to be plagued by the flashing clock forever more..:(
