It's best to live them on. If you remove them, the water will splash all around the engine and can cause problems. Some engines (I think yours too) have the ECU in the area and it could easily get splash without duck bills. You don't want that!
Best is to clean them and the scuttle bay, too.

Perfect. Thank you. Can you actually buy replacement duck bills as I don't think mine are working too fully functional.

They appear pretty much closed in normal use - so nothing solid can get through - but the slit in the bottom lets the water dribble through. Have to say I've cleaned out quite a few and never seen one I considered replacing? They can be a little awkward to get back into the "groove" if you unseat them.

Leave them in but keep them clean. (I check mine every few months - more especially after leaf fall)

They are there to prevent oily smells from the engine breathers or any exhaust getting into the scuttle area, where the ‘fresh’ air for the heater/ventilation comes in from.

When clear, gravity can drain water out, but seal enough to stop air going up through them.

And, even if missing or loose, any water will just drain down the bulkhead, and is well clear of any electrics/electronics or engine parts so nothing to worry about. If missing, even then, no need to replace - the water drains better without them anyway! And if all’s well with the exhaust etc, not a problem there either.

(The main ECU is to the side of the battery)
