Styling spraying alloys

What paint would be used to spray alloy wheels that have an original standard silver base to black. It obviously has to be durable and i have a compressor etc to do the job, also would it be possible to mask of parts after.

A dude I got to spray mine used ordinary car paint and clear coat.

I would rather powder coat them if you have someone that can do them for you.

I saw a mk2 today on mk1 16vsporting alloys that had been home painted black with a rattle can or something, looked fricking aweful

Well ive used 2 pack cellulose several times with excellent results but i also give em a few coats of laquer aswell. Cant see any reason why you wont be able to mask em up after, as long as you wait 24hrs to dry and use low tack masking tape.
