Fiat Ducato 2.8 JTD, year 2000 (ie the pre-facelift model, with the older gearbox where reverse is right and down, next to 4th). It's a left-hand drive model.

Problem is that the Speedo cable has started rubbing/squeaking. Only sometimes and only a light rubbing/squeak, but over the past 500kms it's becoming gradually more regularly present.

We've had the van for about 6 years now, and the Speedo needle has always wobbled quite substantially......less so as speed increases until it's almost steady at about 110kms per hour.

Questions.......is it possible to detatch the cable at the instrument panel end and lubricate it a little.
How much other stuff needs doing in order to get at the joint?
Is it possible/easy to self-fit a replacement cable?

Any advice/tips would be much appreciated!

When the needle is jumping your wearing the pinion in the gearbox and the speedo just buy a new a cable before you need and new pinion and speedo.

Thanks for the advice. Do you know the procedure to replace the Speedo cable...
How do I get to its connection at the rear of the instrument panel?
