PS @airwave ... i cant see a that coolant system bleed screw anywhere near the heater pipes and wiper motor on mine. Do you have any pictures of one at all?

Sorry mate , things have really taken off here . Mothers now in hospital , with diabetic issues . She's on the mend , but i'm a little distracted at the minute . It's a bit late now , i'll post you a picture tomorrow .

Hi Bugsy,

Thanks for that.

The temp gauge should read approximately the thermostat opening temperature when warmed up driving on a free flowing road.

Jack
Interesting. So maybe it was ok previously. The guy who fitted the new one still has the old one, so i will get that back and get it put back in at some point.

Cheers Jack.

Sorry to hear this Airwave. Like i said previously, do what you need to do, I'm just a guy on a forum, family first pal. All totally understandable.

Thanks guys . There does appear to be cognitive issues as well , but hey at her age , that pretty much goes with the territory , is what it is . Oh and she 87 .

Okay , well i'll be honest , i clean forgot about this morning . So i've literally just got back from the hospital and done it straight away , while dinner was cooking . Hopefully the results will be good enough , but if not ,be honest and say so , and i'll do them again tomorrow .

So the first one is of the general engine bay ;

Just to clarify . This is a 2.8 idtd , turbo intercooled Ducato , year 2000 . It is a left hand drive too , though that should make no difference what so ever to engine layout , but do note , my intercooler hoses are remove at the moment . Now if you look towards the top of the picture , dead centre , this is the area we are interested in , and this should be what your looking at ;

My forefinger is pointing directly at the bleed screw . Just above the heater hoses , trust me there are two there , caused a great deal of grief trying to find new replacements , they came from Poland in the end . I seem to recall i said between , in my original location sorry for any confusion that may have caused . Between the master cylinder and expansion tank , just above the heater hoses .
Now a little bonus here , if you follow my thumb , it's for some weird reason pointing to a pair of relays . This was unintentional however i'll use it cause it's there . These relays actually control the windshield wipers . The tall one controls the wash wipe , park function of the wipers . Another bitch to find as it has 6 pins . Well Classic Range Rovers are more collectable than old dukes , but the Range Rover just happens to use the same relay . Go to any four wheel drive centre for a replacement . The other is a standard 4 or it might be 5 pin , i can't remember which , but any motor factor stocks them , and before you ask , dunno . Never needed to go that far , the tall one sorted my problem .

Is that your two heater hoses below the big round rubber groomet?
The ones with "throw away" metal clips which I hate as not reusable.
Can you feel when engine is warmed up if both hoses feel equally warm as the rest of the engine coolant hoses?
If so probably no air locks, as usually the top one is cooler if air lock present.:)
If you do need to get air from there you will need a new clip ready and best do it with a cold engine and coolant cap off.
Usually best to twist those clips until they break rather than risking a saw blade cutting into the hose I find.
So hopefully both hoses warm and you can leave that problem for later.:)

Yeah i did have a good feel about all the pipes when it was up to tempo the other day and all seemed hot. Heater blowers also blowing hot too.

I think this new temp sensor on the thermostat is the issue. Maybe the old one was ok all along. At least the Rad Fan Switch has got me to a point where my fans (or one of them) is kicking in now, so that's at least one worry out the window. :)
