New Panda:

standard setup:

Two coax(I hope!) 165 mm fulla ranges in the front doors and two coax 130 mm in the rear doors.

"Hi-Fi" setup:

Front: Two 165 mm woofers in the doors in and two cheap(about £ 1.5 each!) 30 mm tweeters screwed into the plastic plates beside the handles(normally these are fake!).

Rear: Two "better quality" coax 130 mm full ranges in the rear doors and the same plastic "fake tweeter" plates beside the handles.

Sub: flat type under the passenger seat.

Today I went to a professional car audio shop: the man showed me a catalog with an adaptor to mount the 165 mm speakers in the rear doors. I think it's a typo, because the rear grille is so smaller than front one!

hi all,

since nobody at my dealer in romania was able to give me the exact info about the speaker sizes within the new panda, i went there to see it myself. indeed, in the front door, the size of the place to fit the speakers is larger than the size of the place in the rear door. since in the front door 17cm speakers should fit, for the rear door i suppose 13cm have to be the match.

next to the "door-openers" on all doors i saw (indeed fake) tweeter simulators...but since i didn't wanted to take the risk to see if you can (or not) install there tweeters, i decided to go for coax speakers.

so, for the 1st step of my audio upgrade, i'll go for 2 x 16,5cm Magnat (Power Plus 162) speakers in the front doors, driven by an Alpine 9881R (orange display and buttons - to match orange[arancio] exterior and interior).
i'll keep the original speakers in the rear doors...since i guess i won't hear them too much anyway.

will keep you informed about the results.

ciao,
pandalovah

You can install tweeters up by the door handles.

Here's a picture of my installation:

Good luck with your installtion (y)

wow, looks really nice! congratz to your config! :)

unfortunately, i've orderer already those 2 coax speakers...so i guess, at least for a while, i'll stay with them...and maybe on the next upgrade i'll move them to the rear doors and will install also separated speakers (with tweeters) on the front doors.

thanx anyway for your feedback!

hey santa,

can u give me the sizes of the place and hole within those plastic simulators?

i saw in a magnat catalogue that with different sizes/models of component speakers, the tweeters have also different sizes. so i wanted to know which ones will fit the spaces in the panda doors.

thanx alot in advance,
pandalovah

Not one specific tweeter fits.
You have to make a hole in the plastic simulators for the tweeters.
I used a Dremel
Dremel.multipro.singlespeed.jpg
to make the hole.
I made the hole just large enough, so the tweeter could be pushed through.
I can take a picture of the plastic simulator without the tweeter, so you can see what i'm talking about :)

If you're looking for a speaker component kit, i'm using the Rainbow SLX265 Deluxe set (see here: http://car.rainbow-audio.de/products/details.php?lan=2&pro=1&lin=9&art=231610 for specific data use the "Technical Datas" link on the bottom right).
And i'm using a pair of speaker adapter frames for the speakers.

thanx alot for the fast reply! :)

will do the same, once i'm decided to install such a device into my new panda :D

Santa, did you make a comparison with the factory fit headunit and both sets of speakers, if so what sort of improvement would you say you got?

I'm afraid not. I had already changed my HU, when i changed the speakers. ;)
But I did compare the orig. speakers and the new ones with my new HU and the new speakers are a lot better, mainly thanks to the added tweeters but also the fact that the woofers are dedicated woofers and not 2-way speakers.
You still can't play with a very loud bass without getting a resonance in the door (but then again the woofer isn't in a dedicated cabinet), so i'm thinking of adding a subwoofer to the boot later.

But overall it's a huge improvement.
I haven't changed the speakers in the rear doors (in fact I don't use them right now) and i'm still thinking about changing them for a similar component set (though I think the rear speakers are only 5.25" and not 6.5").

Thanks, I'm quite happy with the standard (mp3 :)) headunit but if a speaker upgrade alone would make a significant difference I might spend the money. Not into a lot of bass so more clarity would be good if the headunit is up to it.

To be honest I don't listen to the stereo that much as the audio entertainment on my 20 minute country lane thrash to work is usually down to the engine but putting music on does calm things down a bit as well as improving fuel consumption, 32mpg without music, 42 with!

I don't want a lot of bass my self, but it should still be there. The orig. speakers are ok if your not too picky, but a set of component speakers (or even some good 2-way speakers) does a lot for the sound.

I definitely wouldn't change back. ;)

I can't drive without listening to music (which is why I changed the orig. HU for my Clarion HU as quickly as I could). I get bored very easily (although I will admit, I can take my self in driving the HP with the window rolled down, just so I can listen to the engine :D ).
And i'm with you on the difference of fuel consumption with and without music (or even with different kinds of music).

OK, got my speakers installed.
as mentioned b4, i went for these.

for the start, i'd say the sound is pretty OK, but i still wanna go further.

probably will move these speakers into the rear doors and will install the 2way version into the front doors, with the tweeters installed replacing those plastic simulators. :)

hope the sound will get way better :D

just to add to this topic, I've now got:

fusion encounter 2-way componants up front, the tweeters mounted by the door handle.
and the same fitted in the back, the sound quality is spot on now, also as I have my seat quite far back the rear tweeter is next to my shoulder, bonus points :D
