My Steering wheel is slightly off centre, I took it to get the tracking done but that did not solve the problem, the car travels in a straight line and does not pull to the left or the right.

The simple solution would to be to remove and replace the Steering wheel, Having never done this on any car can anyone (smart techie guys) tell me how to do this ???

Not possible on these cars as they have a master spline which means the steering wheel can only be fitted in one position. Only way that this can be done is to adjust on the track rods during tracking adjustment. Take the car back to the place that did the tracking and get them to correct it.

Will do Cheers (y)

I took my car back today, they re tested it and said it was spot on, They said the steering was straight yet when I drive in a straight line the steering is left hand down a bit on the steering wheel.

They said the could set the wheel straight but then the tracking would be out and my tyres would be eaten.

Nothing got changed :bang:

This all started after I swapped the front wheels for the back wheels (while painting the brake calipers), I dont see how this could have caused the problem. (athough the front off side wheel needed some help to get off).

Anyone ???

Take it somewhere else and have the tracking done properly. They need to loosen both track rod ends and wind the steering rack further left.

I encountered exactly the same problem when my steering rack was replaced by my Fiat Dealer. Car went straight with the steering wheel off centre to the left. Weird sensation that. I took it back and complained - they redid the tracking and centred the steering wheel perfectly.

The tracking can be spot on and the steering wheel on the floor. It needs to be spot on with the steering wheel straight.

If it is then you may have uneven angled worn tyres causing the drift as you swopped them recently back to front in which case they will wear in as you drive provided the tracking is correct. HA!

Just a thought, your tyre pressures are correct aren't they? Yes of course they are, silly question

I think I might swap the tyres back at the weekend, see if that solves the problem,I have had the car tracked twice and they say its spot on with the steering wheel straight (athough it likes to go right when the steering is straight) yes the pressures are correct ;)

If it does correct its self when the old tyres go back to the front ... what does that mean ?

Come to think of it the tyres at the rear (the older ones) the off side one is worn much more on the out side that the inside ... could that be making the back of the car drift thurs throwing the front out .

I am soooo

It means the tyre's footprint isn't contacting the ground squarely and, a bit like leaning over on a skateboard, will put a sideways force to the wheel

Yep :)

No! The rear tyres are probably not balanced as they don't need to be but as you have swapped them round putting the rear unbalanced tyres on the front, this has probably thrown it out. Only the driven wheels usually get balanced. Go to your local kwik fit, formula 1 & get them to balance the front tyres, probably cost you a tenner. (y)

I've always had 4 wheels balanced - don't fancy bouncing front or back lol. :D

The place I go to for tyres always balances the tyres, regardless if they are for front or rear. When getting new tyres (always onto back) they check the balance of the rear wheels that they move forward. Then new balanced tyres on the back.

My steering was like that for quite a while. I took it to a wheel alignment specialist and they said it was to do with the car being lowered. They adjusted it with that taken into account and it's perfect. Can't believe I had put up with it for so long.

Did they track it using compuer jiggery pockery things mate ?

Cost me about £40 iirc and it's the best £40 I have spent.

An unbalanced tyre doesn't make the tyre wear at an angle, cause the car to pull one way or make the tracking out. Red herring!

Up the wrong tree. Even in the wrong forest :)

It's wheel alignment

When the wheels are aligned correctly and the tyres are in a good state ie not unevenly worn it should run straight.

If it doesn't, there may be other items like track rod ends (mine were gone at 35k) or other worn suspension parts that affect wheel alignment

Well folks .... One trolly jack session later, the tyres are back how they were and now its slighty off the other direction - LOL .... I think I might just change the (now front again) older tyres.
