Technical Skydome replacement cost?

hi,
it certainly sounds as if it won't be repaired on the insurance, :(
how many miles on your panda?,
it will be inrteresting to see what they actually offer you !!,

any INDY Fiat specialists near you who you'd trust to replace the front panel..??,
Charlie

If they won't repair it, I will have to fund it myself.
The car has done 97,000 miles but its been very well looked after and could do at least another 50,000-60,000 miles easily.
Tomorrow is the day I get some closure on the insurance route, the independent estimator should be ringing with the news.

Good news!! This second garage said they will repair the car! (It only needs the glass as I thought all along) :D

I phoned them up this morning to ask about where the parts were coming from and they said Fiat so that’s also promising. I then brought up the issue of the frame that the glass sits on (because it’s only plastic) and they said if its damaged that too will be replaced so it should be good as new when finished (and hopefully it won't leak!). If all goes to plan the car should be fixed by the 4th or 5th of March so all in all I will have had to endure 2 weeks without a car. Although, I forgot to ask how much the final repair cost will be.

I also got a phone call back from the police, and the culprit will be interviewed on Saturday. They’ve spoken to his parents and the step-dad is willing to pay for the damage should he be found guilty (although I’m not sure his step-dad is fully aware of how much it will actually cost!).

I’m just glad things are moving (finally!) and I am getting some closure on what has been a very stressful ordeal. Furthermore, the engineer at direct line is to make a formal complaint against auto-glass over their handling of the situation.

Thanks to everyone on here for your support and advice (y)

Glad it's getting sorted. My repair included a repair to the front wing and a new front bumper and paintwork. I got hit by at least three stones when I was attacked. Came to £3k :-(

That's a massive amount!

Well I anticipate the repair costs to be somewhere between £600-800 but i'll keep everyone posted on the actual cost.

Think quite a lot of my charge related to the world's most crappy car (Nissan Micra really old shape :yuck:) the repair company loaned me... I had it for FIVE weeks!

And is it going as a glass claim

If the little sods rents do pay, buy the claim back you you should get any affected NCD reinstated (y)

Yes it is classed as a glass claim (they are also treating it as vandalism). I am told it will not affect my no claims bonus. I will have to pay a £75 excess but the police said if the lads step-dad is still willing to pay I would get my £75 back and the rest would have to be settled via the insurance company.

Assuming they [insurance] don't press charges. You got this lads details? If so have you passed them onto your insurance company

Yes all the details have been passed onto the insurance company. The individual is going to be interviewed at the police station tomorrow so we'll see what happens. One of his friends that I happen to know has given a statement and was a witness to the incident. Hopefully, the police will have enough should the matter need to go further.

That's not too bad at all...

Initially I thought that I had only been hit by the one stone on the window and initially was inquiring just about new glass for the roof, but when morning arrived and I had another look, I saw the wing and the bumper and realised I had to go for the proper insurance claim instead...

Just another update, the company fixing the glass say they've got the glass but now the runners are damaged because glass has got in

They are saying it looks like a hard job so once again its not looking good

Well I'm going to make the journey to Rochdale tomorrow to see what's going on. I'm getting rather frustrated with this situation! :bang:

I had my skydome open on the way to work today (its beautiful here in Bath today, not sure of the rest of the country) and I actually thought of you.

If my skydome was smashed I would be distraught :(

Let us know whats going on! Skydome club 4 life, skydome club 4eva!

Hi guys, it’s still not good news! They are clueless, apparently they've ordered some parts from Italy that they “think” they need (I assume hose, cable harness, possibly vessels with guides and clamping kit). These parts are supposed to be here today but so far have not turned up.

Also, the guy on the phone said they don't even know where to start, which is a bit worrying! I have a panda workshop manual (on CD) which has all the instructions they need and it looks like lots of interior trim needs to be removed so they can remove the roof lining. I just hope that if they do attempt it that nothing else gets damaged in the process. Once the trim has been removed it looks straight forward.

So far its 4 and half weeks since it happened and I've had no car since which has been a missive inconvenience. I've just got a funny feeling 4 weeks could easily turn into 8 weeks or it might never get repaired! If that happens I will have to consider repairing it myself and trying to find a garage that will do the work.

All this is just leaving me very stressed, angry and upset. I just couldn't let the little car go; it’s a part of me.

I would hate for this to happen to any of you guys, it’s just a nightmare that never seems to end

Who are you insured with out of interest? Sounds like a bloody useless company. Did you go for the cheapest quote when shopping about out of interest?

I'm insured with Direct Line. Firstly, they advised us to see auto-glass, which we did. Auto-glass said they needed insurance approval before they could do the repair. So after a few days of waiting, I called direct line, who said auto-glass said they were not going to repair it because the whole roof needed replacing at £1440, which direct line thought was too expensive (seen as the glass is separate!).

So Direct Line tried another company (UK Assistance, Rochdale) who took the car away for inspection and estimation. They said they would carry out the repair and so ordered the glass. The glass came 5 days later. They installed the glass and proceeded to open the sun-roof at which point some glass must have still been trapped near the motor/wiring harness/hose. So as I'm aware, the sunroof now doesn't operate.

Apparently on several occasions they invoiced Fiat with the details and Fiat have sent the wrong parts. So last week they finally believed they were ordering the right parts (from Italy), despite not having a clue how to access it or finish the job. So today when the parts were supposed to be here, they haven’t arrived. Also, the person in charge of the work said he hasn’t received any photographs as to how the roof and its components are disassembled. I have a workshop manual on CD, but even with this I don’t think this situation will get resolved.
