I started this thread to see if the more modern pandas had started to rot.

nearly all the ones I have seen so far have been 05/06 in fact I would estimate over 50% looking through old MOTs I don't see many 2012 and latter 08 is the youngest one I have seen so far. It parked on the street and I pass it quite often. I could have missed it but fairly sure its only just been done.

the sill outer sill is usually the tip of the iceberg

Platting isnt a fix. Yes I have done it. Yes it passes the MOT

But you are covering up the problem.

this car didn't have any holes in the sill. Just a slight bubble noticed when washing. but was advised to have it stripped. Yes I know its not a Panda. If it was a Panda it wouldn't have been worth repairing properly.

If it was purely cosmetic, you wouldn't need to patch it for an MOT.

Depends entirely where it is, as the outer sill is within 30cm of a structural suspension point (even though none structural) it’ll be a fail. It’s a black and white rule. Still doesn’t make it structural.

Rust holes also cause sharp edges, which are also a fail as could cause an injury.
