I think we should have a maximum sig size, say a maximum height and width, like they do on some forums.

I dont mean to be a kill joy or anything, but peoples sigs are getting sooooo massive that its getting hard to read some threads and soon we are going to be getting one reply per page!

What do you reckon Ben?

H, just stuck yours into photodraw and saved it again, it's only 24 odd K now. Any use?

Can do this for others if they'd like..

i made that :D

anyway....

TBH i have read this thread and i think the attitude stinks, some people are coming across really arrogant, wont even meet half way, but i suppose its us mods being bad and all

The sigs have been getting way over the top recently, why not think of other people who use the forum instead of having an attitude

Worry not, Pete. I did have a sensible size sig image, and when the gallery software was updated a few weeks ago, the upate broke my link, so I fixed the link, but linked to the full size image (120Kb). I've just put it back to like it used to be, linked to the preview image, so now it's under 20Kb, even smaller than what you attached. (and 96% smaller than Ben R's :p ) But cheers anyway (y)

ben your attitude has been if people dont like it then tough!

on the Fccuk site they are very tight on sig sizes, i got a rollocking for my siz being 2 pixels too big i dont know what the size should be on there, H would know.

Its just a matter of people using thier common sense to what an acceptible size is, if people cant do that then unfortunatly sizes will have to be set :(

I think telling people to get a faster connection for the sake of your sig is not a good attitude to have.. correct me if am wrong

As posted before, some people use their parent's setup, some don't have access to broadband, and some of us have to suffer the oppressive regime of NTL (aka Not Till Later). It's just a spot of courtesy really to those who haven't got a high speed connection.

I don't think the thread was started with the intention of getting at anyone, but that's how it's been interpreted by several people.

the net is full of pics, its advisable to set browsers to not show them if people are on a slow conection i reckon.
Netscape 3 had a toolbar button to load images, so you'd browse with imaes turned off, then hit the button to load images if needed. That was in 1996. I don't think that we should regress 9 years (about 75% of the web's lifetime!) because we can't come to a simple rule.
As sammi said, fccuk rules are:

Forum Etiquette:
- Constrain the use of signature images to small-sized ones (no larger than 125 pixels high or 600 pixels wide)
- Do not post images larger than 640 pixels wide or 480 pixels high. Preferably, include them as link, not as image

I reckon a 50KB sig image limit would be advisable too, as you could have someone within the size constraints, but with a huge image if they linked to a bitmap.

550x120 px is a good limit :D My file size is 77 kb's, i'll sort something out...

EDIT- now 59 kb, i saved it as a 40kb though. If anyone wants to sort it out for me, that would be great.

lol smooth joe! ;)

personally i think putting a limit on it is the best way forward..... for now.

somethin like 650x200 or sumthin, gives enough room to get a decent pic, plus a bit of txt in there.

i noticed mine was mentioned a few pages ago.... if people think mine is to big then i will get rid of 1 or both of the quotes, no skin of my nose!

FAO Matt:

How's about this below: Pasted your sig into photodraw then saved it again, went from 300k to 64k approx. If you add them to your gallery it sometimes saves time loading if access to the other server is slow.

I'm on broadband and I get bored waiting, it's a royal pain in the bum when I have to flick from page to page when doing moderator type thingies.

Cheers Fixitagaintomorrow,
I'll use it for now and look on Photoshop tonight, didnt think about reducing the quality from 12,

Hmmmm, do I get involved here? Granted the quote is not required but I'm sure there was a post sometime back about owners clubs and to place it in your signature.

I've never had a problem with people's sigs, i use mine to provide info to those that want it;)

I got both dial up (33k connection speed:p yeah i know stone age but it's a 56k modem, the line sucks)and broadband (8Mb ADSL) on the same computer. On dial up i've never had a page take more then a minute to load unless it's the photo gallery, on broadband i can load my site (140MB) in around 30minutes or so if i use my secret;) .

I use dial up in the garage btw, that's where i spend my time:D and it's too far from the house to use network or wireless to access broadband.

Ben, I just got your PM, don't worry about the Sig mate, you can delete it, i won't be offended.
When i get the PC back i'll send you the Still image of the 3 small pictures that are on the end of your animation mate ;)

Or you can send it to me and I'll do it for you (y)

Can you not remove the middle 'sweep' so that it starts off b&w and then after one sweep it goes to colour? I could do this for you tonight if your in a rush Ben?

P.S. It's a very imaginative sig KoA and although it makes me feel ill, I appreciate the amount of work that has gone into it, rock on :slayer:
