Technical Seicento 1.4 16v Project

Technical Seicento 1.4 16v Project

As Kristian has said we both use same model, but no matter which one you use you are going to have to either modify your existing exhaust or get e new bespoke one made which i would recommend as even an aftermarket performance exhaust is going to be restrictive as its made for a 1.1L engine, not a 1.4L.

The standard system as fitted to the Stilo our engine came from was bigger in diameter than the SuperSprint system we had on Emma's Cinq.

And the system fitted to Emma's Dad's 500 1.4L is fairly big as well.

Another consideration is CAT placement if you are keeping it, we did to ensure legality in case of VOSA road side random checks and ease of MOT's, on the MPi Seicento the CAT is built into manifold as it is on all modern cars to heat it up quicker making it work earlier and therefore be more efficient. Fortunately as the floorpan is same as older Spi models & there is the lump in floor pan for the CAT to sit which is where ours went. Plus modern CATS are not as restrictive as many think they are.

Good luck with the conversion.

Looks excellent, I like how you have kept plastic engine cover on it, and sounds great on track to.

Maybe you should stick up some more details of it in the Cento section, for example the inlet manifold used, throttle body, exhaust manifold, engine management used etc as sure others would like to see your approach to the conversion as well.

The engine also seems to be different to the Grande Punto engine's we get here as we have one for a Cinquecento project we are working on and it has a cam variator on it, seems only GP has this probably to get emissions down as heavier car engine has to work harder so more emissions.

Aaron.

hi dear Aaron,
-my engine is from grande punto (95 hp)
cod. 843Α1000
with only 13K on it!
maybe your engine is from panda100hp, and it has a cam variator on it..in my case i dont have this...problem!
so,is most easier in my case...
i did not have a siruis problem with the elettronic management
-the ecu still from a punto sporting mk1 1242 16v (86 hp) but reprogramming (ecu chip)
my throttlebody is from a bravo 1.6 16v
46mm original size...is exelant for this engine - 1368 16v
(from 1242 16v is 40mm)
-the crankshaft sprocket is from a punto 1242 16v but cut in the middle!!
-the fuel pump is from a punto gt
-the intake is from a punto 1242 16v
the alternator is from a punto 1242 16v
-the ignition coil is from a punto 1242 16v
-the exhaust is 55mm (my sei is an ex-turbo car)
-my grear box have 6 gears and its from punto mk2b
-the manifold is from supersprint cod.81.44.01
-the water temp sender fitted to the thermostat

Hy!!! First i wanna say that your car is simply awsome!!! Excuse my bad english...i am from Romania and i am addictet to the seicento I have strongly modified the interior and a lil bit of exterior and engine/exhaust but i wanna put a 1.4 16v engine in it...but i have the further problems: 1st: i don't know where to do the swat because the romanian mecanichs aren't that specialized...in fiat ... 2) if i get all the parts like you did...and mixed them...will i have problems with the electric instalation??? what ECU should i use??? And does the 1.4 16v fit's in the originals 1.1 bracket's? if not...i think here in RO i will faile the MOT...and that sux...

So please!!! If you can help me with advices or something...i would be thankfull 10 life's cause nobody from here can help me and i really reallly want more power in my sei ...If you have an Ymessenger ID or and MSN id..something compatible with Yahoo messenger please add my id: [email protected] or give me yours and we will further speak there. Excuse again my bad english!!! Awsame car again...plz help

Only just saw this.

Thanks for comments on the car, its still going strong 2 years later.

The engine uses original engine mounts, with slight modification to the drivers side one to clear the alternator belt if using the 1.4 16v alternator, Kristian did it differently, but meant buying a new oil pump which is expensive.

Should have no problems with electrics, everything works in ours, but we used an Emerald ECu to run the engine, Kristian used Megasquirt, and elaborazioni rossogialle used the 1242 16V ecu IIRC

I will start colecting the parts...thank you very much for you answer...i will be a 1.4 16v owner :D

Last year i got hold of a 1368 16v complete engine and gearbox for a project. It is believed to be a first in the UK, putting this engine into a seicento sporting.
For those who don't know this is the same engine used in the brand new panda 100hp fire engine, but my particular engine was taken out of a stilo with only 8k on the clock.

So since buying the engine i've been slowly finding parts needed to make this work, i've bought....
1. Supersprint stainless steel manifold
2. Emerald ecu
3. Inlet manifold off a Mk1 punto 16v
4. Throttlebody off a MK1 punto 16v
5. 15" compomotive Mo alloys.
6. Punto GT complete front & rear brake setup.
7. Induction kit.
8. Water temp gauge by Raid
9. Oil temp gauge by Raid

The plan is to convert the fly by wire to the cable operated system, hence the need for MK1 punto 1.2 16v parts. My dad (Jon) has made up a plate to mount coil packs on, as shown in pics below.

We are also using the 6 speed gearbox, and converting it to cable operated from hydrolic.

The 1.4 engine is in that was the easy part, but not connected up yet (hence the mess lol). The challenge will be to sort all the wires to connect to the emerald ECU.
Pics of the progress so far.....
