Panda (Classic) SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica).

Re: SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica)

That power output does seem high. The Y10 was quick in my testing though. Not as quick as my Panda I wouldn't have said though. I check the jets and emulsion tubes against the best info I had and they were right. Which ones have you found to be wrong and according to what? I remember thinking it was odd that it actually had normal jets since the Turbo was not standard. It's simply a mystery that engine for many reasons, but hopefully will do the business for you in the Marbella. It seems closer than ever.

Re: SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica)

Definately not a standard engine to say the least vernon! Can't say I'm disapointed, but a bit nervous as thats a lot more than I was expecting.

Regarding the jetting Lewey, the idle jets were changed and one of the main jets I beleive too. It was running lean all the time before, but now there is just that little blip on the power curve which we beleive is just the carb getting starved of fuel. Will try a larger needle valve as was suggested as this carb might just be failing to get enough fuel in for the set up.

The timing strobe cutting out concerned me a bit more, but this I can just play around with. Plenty of possibilites, but the weather is in my favour now so I can spend some time on it without having to hold an umbrella while I work!!

Re: SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica)

A bit more tinkering today, but have tried all the obvious things that could be causing probs so now its time to start replacing things.

I am also thinking that the positive ignition supply is not good enough for this new set up (its using the old marbella wiring but its now got a more demanding ignition system). So I will try to give it a healthier supply by using a relay setup. If it doesnt improve things, I'll just put it back but it cant cause any harm.

I have checked all wiring / earthing etc so....

Things on the list to replace:

1) Ignition coil
2) TDC sensor if I can find one (after checking the gap is correct)
3) Fuel pressure regulator (I have put off replacing this as its not a cheap gamble).
4) all else fails, find a new e. ignition module.
Negative bits asside, she is looking quite pretty out in the sun so took some photos:

Dash now has Tachometer and boost gauge installed:

Exhaust is a bit disapointing, looks a bit tacky but the guys at Longlife said they would have a look at it for me. Bit of a shame as I had good recommendations from everyone I spoke to about them. I think the exhaust I built myself looked better and after the rest of the car was looking so good it lets it all down:

Roof lining removed (was a bit torn and had the someones name inscribed into it.....doesnt look to untidy underneath though:

Spare wheel will be going in the back now (better weight distribution you understand) also looks better. Wont be this tacky marbella wheel though, will be getting another set of Beta coupe alloys and using one for the spare:

Looking very nice Si, bodywork in particular looks straight and shiny, just what you want on a black one. (y)

New fuel pressure regulator and ign. module are always good to have, will you be going for an adjustable reg.?

Are Longlife still in Thornbury, or did you use a different depot?

Yeah I think I was lucky to find one so clean to be honest. Doors have lots of chips in the paint that have been touched up thoug which lets it down, but at least its not rust!

The pressure regulator is adjustable so I can play around a bit. Quite excited to try it actually. Coil will be here tomorrow so will give that a try (assuming I ordered the right one). If that doesnt help then I'll order a new TDC sensor as that has been my suspicion for some time. I'll get there eventually lol, just got to be methodical.

PS The Longlife I went to is in Berkeley just off the A38.

Re: SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica)

Now then, I've just got a Y10 engine 1.0 (non-turbo) to fit into my 1994 903cc Marbella Fun.
My brother's doing all the work as he's the mechanic, but he isn't sure on the ignition wiring setup.
Does anyone have a diagram of how it should be set up?If someone had a file of a workshop manual for the Y10 that would be legendary. Can't find a link to any online and I've rung around but no one seems to have the Haynes for the Y10.

ps. Si, your Marbella is quite simply amazing :)

Hi there, thanks for the compliments. Car is coming along nicely now, wont be long before its first run up the drag strip I hope.

Regarding ignition wiring set-up please see the pictures I have attached. These are the only bits I could find on the 1050cc non turbo ignition. Does this look right?

Also, I have been told that Haynes didnt even make a manual for a Y10. So we are both going to have our work cut out I think!!

Speaking from experience on this engine though, it is probably easier to put this engine into a mk2 panda. gearbox mounts are the same between mk2 panda and y10. Engine mount will still have to be fabricated though. Other than that though, sounds like a cool project. Keep me posted on its progress, I'd be interested to see how you get along. As they say 2 minds are better than one! Good luck.

I think the 1.0 engine in the Y10 is a FIRE engine, the same as in the pandas and unos. A Haynes book will give you the wiring diagrams.

Re: SEAT Marbella (Mk1 Panda replica)

Thank you very much Si :D
I've sent the link to my brother so he can examine it and whatnot and see if it will help.
I went down and bought Kate's Marbella last night, lovely car, very solid, exactly same as mine, so I'm no longer going to put the Y10 engine in my old car, I'll put Kate's engine in mine, (after I have replaced the head gasket on Thursday) and have that as my everyday car, and then, inspired by your car, put the Y10 in Kate's car and strip it out and have it as my rally slag car :D

As far as we can tell it wasn't the water pump that had gone because the water was circulating (swirling at the top of the radiator cap) but the head gasket, my brother looked at it and smelt it and other technician-esque things and said it was definitely head gasket.
So on Thursday, new head gasket in, thermostat from my Marbella in the new one, then I'll drive the new one for a week or so, check it's all sound, engine out, into body of my old one.
Going to be a mechanical few weeks for me I think, well, I'll be making a lot of tea, my brother can do the hard work :D

Thanks for the compliment, regarding the engine, they did put a 1050cc NA engine in the Y10. Cant have been used for long though.

I have also had some talks with some people in the know today and have a few more things to try! Fuel pump quite possibly not up to scratch!! :bang: And think it needs a dump valve as the previous owner of the engine had removed it!! This is possibly causing the problem as when I come off the throttle the boost pressure has no where to go. I'll get there eventually!!!

Good luck with the Work anyway Bungle!!
