Help! Finally decided to go ahead with cylinder head gasket replacement on 898cc Cinq after advice from the forum and all gone well. But when refitting Rocker assembly find that Haynes manual shows rocker arm adjuster crews/bolts with lock nuts which are not on my version. On mine there appears to be no adjustment possible. In this case do I go ahead and tighten rocker assembly without setting preload on tappets?

thanks Tony

Hi,
Any chance of taking a digi photo, but if there's nothing to adjust you have no optoin but to just put it back together..

Thanks

Hi,
Sure mine had the adjuster nut and screw on the small end of the rocker.....
Will find out soon as I think the hydraulic tappets in mine are naff, take about 5 mins to stop tapping, anyone know if the mechanical adjust valve gear from the uno will bolt straight on as I don't want to pay Fiat £16 each for the hydraulic tappets....?

Thanks
Paul T

tony - in your case id just slap it back together and see what happens. might sound noisy until oil is pumped back into tappets.

paul - in yours why not just adjust the tappets up as per the haynes manual ecxept without the preload? ie undo lock nut, screw tappets down finger tight then tighten lock nut. did this on mine after i bought it as it was making a right din and its fine now! easy.

Hi,
Yeah thought of that one but the seals are shot and oil is draining from the system back to the sump which takes a few seconds to refill on start up, I think I'm going to do more damage if I don't sort something soon, thats why I thought of using a head from a 903cc uno with manual rockers(and give i a good porting), as there's loads of those breaking around me...

Thanks
Paul T

IIRC, the 903cc block was originally in the Cinq, but it became the 899cc due to tax evasion...

I think Ive heard somewhere the rocker gear in those 903's is a straight swap, but dont quote me on it!...It would make sense, as Fiat wouldnt create an entirely new block to get -4cc difference, just alter the machining of the 903cc, cos that costs nothing!
