OK thank you. That sounds good.
Regarding the welding. As I am not a welder and I don't have any welding kit, I am sure I am going to have to get somebody to do the welding. I am not sure how long it will be before that gets done, so, in the meantime, and to stop the rot getting worse, is there anything I can be doing? Should I start cutting bad metal out for example, or is that best left to the welder?

When tha's putin 'tglass back in. Does tha ave to put sealant or summat on't rubber?

Ee bah gum*: has tha tried this -- as recommended by Squadrone Rosso -- has worked wonders on the Punto and Panda, in stopping the door seals sticking; and keeping the window rubbers flexible.... (y)

I love your Northern talk! :D

It's funny: but I don't think I have that much of a northern accent... -- until I go back to visit my parents (one from Lancashire; one from Yorkshire...): and then it emerges, suddenly, by eck....

Glad you liked it! I wondered whether to put a translation in as well!

Actually "Nothern" covers a wide spectrum of accents - just like in the south.

When I was a teenager I went from a rather "posh" all boys school in Leeds (West Yorkshire) to a rather more down to earth mixed school in South Yorkshire, only about 35 miles away, and some of the lads and lasses there I struggled to even understand sometimes!

Anyway, we digress. Let's get back to welding and Panda restoration!

Just steering the conversation back from Northern-ness for a minute.
Whilst I am waiting to make my plans regarding the welding, what can I be doing to stop rusty areas getting worse, other than rub them down and treat them? Would it make sense for example where the boot floor meets the inside wall of the boot and is rusty, to cut the rusty bit out to stop it spreading, or is that best left to whoever is doing the welding?

I think it depends on how long it will be before you get the welding done. Any longer than three months and you may find a coating will start to fail before then.
Anyone doing the welding would probably want to cut the areas themselves so I'd advise having the work done ASAP. In the meantime Bilt Hamber do a cavity wax that creeps into welded seams so would probably give you the best protection in the meantime. It's called Dynax S50 and can be bought directly from their website.
It will need to be thoroughly cleaned off before welding mind, a welder might prefer it if you used a weld through etch primer.

Poor old sod!
If you cut too much out and leave the doors open it will fold in the middle.
Happy days
Dave
Errrrrrr. I meant like in this area circled, or the seam odf the boot floor to the side wall .
Regarding the sills - the outer sills are mainly ok. It is the inner sill where it joins with the floor on the n/s that is worst. I wasn't planning on chopping the whole sill out and then just leaving it. I am just trying to do what is sensible quickly to stop the rot spreading where I can.

OK thank you. I hope to get the welding done as soon as I can. To be honest there's a bit more to do than I had hoped, and I haven't finished investigating yet, but I am looking on the positive side. The paintworks's coming up a treat!

Does anybody know the paint colour code for my car? 1994 "Colour"?
I've come out to the paint shop and thought the code was on the silver plate under the bonnet, but it's not :(

I used these people for the panels for my Mk1 and Sisley:
http://www.carz2.co.uk/fiat-panda-811291-c-140_148.html

Took a few weeks for them to arrive as they source them from Denmark when they don't have them in stock. They do a large order from over there every few weeks.
OK thanks. I will make enquiries next week.
I am thinking that at least one of my sills would be better replaced than repaired.
