looking at replacing the clutch on my girlfriends 100hp. other than the clutch kit, is there anything to watch out for or anything else worth changing at the same time that cant easily be accessed once it is all back together?

im pretty familiar with doing this type of work, just after any little tips (if any) so it goes as smoothly as possible.

looks fair straight forward from what i can see and access seems decent.

I've just replaced my clutch, removed engine to do it, sometimes it can be awkward pushing engine back onto gearbox.took about 4 hours from start to finish.pretty simple.

removing the whole engine to do it seems a little excessive!!!!

you did well doing that in 4 hours though!

I found through experience of having fiats for 15 years less goes wrong with removing the engine. The problems with interfering with all the consumable nuts and bolts can be awful as most of them just snap and there's some that seems to only be replaced by others in scrap yards due to their unique designs. I've also had major problems with the hub nuts threading. So the easiest in the long run for me is to remove the engine. It's dead easy once the front bumper and stuff is removed. I don't have an engine pully either the engines quite light.

Never really had that issue other than silly brackets and that. My cinq was simple enough to change the clutch on without taking the engine out!

I will have a bash and see how I get on.

I had my clutch done by a (good) local garage but I wish I'd done it myself. The friction plate was fine but pressure plate was badly grooved which I guess explained why the clutch was lagging behind the pedal making the car lurch. The release bearing was also dry so not likely to last much longer.

How do you get the engine out? Do you drop it down on a jack or lift the car off the top?

Done the clutch today. Same issue with the friction plate being fine, but the pressure plate had bad grooves in it.

Wasn't too bad a job really. Definitely didn't have to drop the engine out, that is just overkill.

Managed to get the slave cylinder coupling apart without too much issue. The plastic release got a little mashed, but shouldn't need to come apart again anyway.

Used an AP clutch same as original, so should do another 120k miles :slayer:

I did a Punto with little more than some basic tool. axle stand, plank of wood and rope.

used a wooden dowel and rapped tape around it to make a clutch alignment tool

it is a two man job to lift it back in. one to lift it up one to keep the rope tight

I did cheat by not removing the driveshafts. I tied a strap to a fence and after undoing the suspension pulled the whole lot away until the gear box end dropped down. Wasn't worth the effort.

1/2" breaker bar and socket for the drive shaft
clutch alignment tool
torque wrench

would certainly make life easier.

no doubt there is a guide on here which lists all the tools.

I would do the slave cylinder at the same time, obviously the release bearing and clutch fork if it has one too. Good luck

read 2 posts up from yours. i changed the clutch yesterday. i just greased up the fork as it wasnt too bad. obviousy release bearing etc too.

feels like a new car and the slave cylinder being precharged with brake fluid was handy :D

Mine got a new slave cylinder with the clutch but the master was also at end of life. I've managed by bleeding it but need to get a new master fitted.

If the (so called) quick release coupling wont move, you can cut it out and join the pipes with some 1/2" bore rubber hose. I used some rated to 25bar and three worm clips on each side.

A much better option is to just replace the whole hydraulic system while access is good. If the slave is not leaking then it's probably ok, but a worn master will suck air past the seals. You bleed the system and after a while the clutch bite point gets lower again.

It's worth wrapping PTFE tape around the bleed nipple screw before doing the bleeding. The "dry" screw dribbles horribly and makes a right mess.

I know the post is old, but can I know what exact AP clutch did you use? Link or product code would be perfect. Thnx.

AP are one of the OEM for the 1.2

not sure if its correct for the 100HP

anyhow part number is 71773157

It was an AP clutch I removed. It also had fiat markings on too as was the original.

If i search the item I purchased on eBay it has been changed to a valeo clutch. EBay item number is 232571029874

You should be able to search around from there.
