Hey guys, sorry if this is in the wrong section, my panda 100hp needs a new clutch and slave cylinder, with parts included Iv been quoted £1080 by a local garage.

Is this a fair price?

The quote also includes

This estimate is based on replacing the clutch kit,
concentric slave cylinder and gearbox oil. Final cost may vary if we find additional issues once the gearbox is removed, such as flywheel damage, seized/broken bolts, worn gearbox mounts, oil leaks, damaged clutch fork/pivot, or hydraulic pipe issues. We will
contact you before carrying out any additional work.

Price is a little bit high, but... all prices are, nowadays.
Flywheel is solid (single-mass) on yours, so no damage expected there normally, but the "if" is worth mentioning.

If master cylinder was not recently replaced for a new one, I would put a new master too and have the fluid in the line between master and slave all flushed out and replaced. There is debris in from worn master seal.

You didn't mention the car's age or mileage. If it's around 10 years old or more, I would have a little extra done noe, having the gearbox off. It's quite easy and very useful. Have a new gearbox bearing fitted and new gearbox seals, 3 of them.
Here is our famous gearbox thread link about it:

If you can have them do that for that price, would be better. It's little extra work because gearbox comes off anyway for clutch replacement.

Hiya thanks for your reply, yeah I forgot to mention it's a 57 plate on 80k miles

Sounds very expensive to me
I would have thought half that amount would easily cover it

Unless as Mike says any seals are leaking
Although I understand the input shaft bearing wear is less of a problem on the six speed box?
Good idea to check input shaft for play

Also the 100hp 169 doesn't have a concentric slave, it's bolted on top of the gearbox
Not usually changed with the clutch unless there's a problem with it

I would ring around a few indy garages / mobile mechanics for better quotes.

Is this a fair price?
In a single word, no. Even half that would be a lot for a straightforward clutch change on a 169 Panda.

Your car does not have a concentric slave cylinder.

This shows the garage are either extremely careless in their quotation procedure, or they have no working knowledge of the 100HP. Either way, I'd go somewhere else, even if they agreed to halve the price.

It won't go into gear with the engine on, with the engine off you can select gear and then turn the engine on and it'll drive onto the recovery truck for example, which is what I did. There was some jerky acceleration a few times in first and second before this became an issue, that's all I noticed wrong. The garage I had it taken too say they think it's the clutch. Not sure what the outcome is gonna be once they start taking things apart. Tbh iv only had the car a week, when I test drove it round town it seemed fine. Knowing my luck iv bought a shitter

Sound hydraulic

Are you near the the car now
No it's at a garage where the feck recovery truck took it too just at the moment as iv been too busy to fetch it back. Trying to decide what to do next. When the engine was off, when you pressed down on the clutch it didn't sound good. My old man could hear me pressing down from outside the car

Simple and easy to fix stuff first

First thing is to check the hydraulic fluid level

If it's low check the master and slave for leaks

Measure the throw

It's a 1.2 in the video above but should be close enough

If the throw is low, try bleeding the system

I believe @irc has seen something similar with a leaking or weeping quick connect coupling, it's near the chassis rail

Slightly more costly to fix

The plate can stick to the flywheel if it's contaminated with oil

It fairly easy to check,

Put your finger in the inspection hole and see if the inside is covered in oil, engine off obviously

It's a pretty good indication but not 100%

Unfortunately if there is it's more costly to repair

Do you have any history of the car

You can get dragging clutch if the cars been sitting for long periods, should show up on the MOT history checker

I wouldn't trust a garage that quoted that high to give an honest diagnoses
