General Replacement Stilo?

General Replacement Stilo?

I think because Stilo sales really slowed up towards the end of its run, there could be a few old style grill models on 06 or 56 plates. Just examples that have been hanging around at the docks or something?

To check out whether an example is a genuine run-out model, you're probably best looking at the interior. The run-outs had seat material which had a kinda ladder pattern all the way up the middle, either on a grey or bright blue background. Earlier cars didn't have this.

Also, the run-outs all had silver speedo & rev counter backgrounds i think, whereas older models only had the silver on some Sportings.

If it's got BOTH of these interior touches but an old black grill, the grill couldve been replaced, possibly because of a crash. If however, it's on an 06 plate or later, got a black grill, black instrument backgrounds & no ladder pattern in the seats, it's likely to be genuine but been sat around unregistered for a while!

Its in the classifieds.

Its not quite as bright as broom yellow.

Body wise for its age, you will seriously struggle to find better. I am in the process of puting all of the trim back together as i took it out for the audio installation. I am awaiting on some mid range speakers to arrive and i have an amp ready to go in. It wont be silly loud but set up for a better quality sound than standard especially using the Altec lansing tweeters and xovers.

The uprated brakes might come in handy too lol.
Thanks for putting up the link. I'll show it to the Mrs. tomorrow. We've actually started to despair of finding a nice Stilo 3-door at the right sort of money. The ideal situation would be to find something at least as good, if not slightly better than we had before and apart from the one I mentioned earlier we've not had much luck. Obviously we're looking quite locally as there's almost nothing worse than driving 200 miles to find you're looking at a close relation to a Labradoodle. However, in Volkstu's case we'd make an exception.

In the meantime I put a suggestion to Mrs. Beard. After she'd slapped me in the face I then suggested we look for something older but a bit interesting. I was surprised when she said she'd think about it. Half an hour later she came up with a surprising choice: A 1992 Mercedes Benz 300CE with 137,000 miles on it. That was quite a contrast. It was a bit scabby around the wings, but for £2250 complete with AMG alloys, A/C, ESR, CD player, FSH, all leather upholstery and so on we got quite keen and took it for a drive last Sunday.

There's also a nice '02 VW Bora 2.0 but I've yet to have a really good look at it. One of the problems is that I think to get a really good Stilo, you either need someone like my Dad who does about 2,000 miles a year and always has it serviced at a main dealer; or one that's been owned by an enthusiast.

Which brings me back to Volkstu's baby.

The bora certainly is a nice car. I have always had a soft spot for them but their engines just don't put out the power that is warrented for such large saloon.
I am obviously biased because it's my car but in terms of nostalgia I would choose my car. Veedubs IMO have exactly the same issues as any modern fiat but people complain less because they hold their value more. That said if you pay 3k for a Fiat you would be looking at around twice that for the equivelant veedub so do you mind the ocasional trip to the garage.

One thing that has amused me whilst selling this car is the fact that most people who have shown interest are guys buying a car for their wives. They have all said my wife isn't interested in modifications whatsoever but you can guarantee that if I were to go an take them all off and selling the car as standard they wouldn't be so intrested.
