My good lady wife decided she didn't like the way the front of her Stilo Active 1.4 looked the other week, so she decided to restyle (or should that be reStilo it) with the aid of the rear end of a Nissan X-Trail.

Hers was a '05/05 bog standard model. I've seen a '06/56 car for sale and it's obviously a minor re-vamp model as it has a radio/cd player with steering wheel controls and A/C as well as different seat trim.

The description says it has steel wheels, although the photos show FIAT alloys.

My question is: Is this model in any way inferior to the '05 version, or is it all good?

All good I'd have said. Its a very late model, so they're normally slightly higher speced etc.
Thanks for that. The run out models have nearly always been the best of the lot, regardless as to what the make is.

I think I'll go to bed now as there won't be anybody else to answer me until about noon when the rest of the Stilo owners (fine body of men [and women] that they are) finally emerge from their pits.

I would certainly go for it as i would be buying the lastest newest one i could find as long as it had the spec i wanted, In the colour i wanted.

You dont really hear of that many problems with the later ones much either do you??

I think the newer ones were slightly de-speced, also check how much the tax difference is between an 05 and 06 ;)

Obviously newer car would hopefully mean better reliability but like all cars you can never tell.

Edit:- So she doesnt want mine then

I think 1.6 might be a bit too much for her. She has a habit of hitting three figure speeds in a 1.4 so a 1.6 might mean that after a few chats with the magistrates we may well not need a second car.

On a slightly more serious note, there seems to be one or two late model 1.4s knocking about at reasonable money. I found an 06/56 1.4 Active with A/C, CD/radio and alloys for about £2700. There are, however, a few slight problems: namely, 1) that it's about 170 miles away, 2) the cheque hasn't come from the Insurance company and 3) we've had a letter today from them that says they will pay £2950 (less £150 excess). This is not exactly the £3500 they promised on Friday over the phone.

I foresee a further battle on the horizon.

As an afterthought, the last of the 1.4s seems to have a different grille from the earlier ones, although the one I saw doesn't have the new one. Surely it's not had a repair. That would be ironic.

Are you paying the insurance by installments if so they
would deduct the outstanding premiums off the money too.

Why? Car is no longer any more, so insurance policy is no longer needed, so if paid up front, or in instalments, no further payment on the policy needs to be paid, and if paid up-front they owe you the remainder (minus cancelation costs possibly) (y)

If you check the insurance terms and conditions you may find that if the car
is written off then the full premiums for the remaining part of the 12 months
policy become due, if you payed them up front you get no refund.
Some insurance companies may at that point cancel the rest of the
time left on the policy others will freeze the policy until you get another
car but then charge a large administration fee to transfer the policy to
a new car.

Never seen that in the T+C's of policies I've had (and I read them ), but suppose its not impossible.

Has to how its stands on a personal view is different but I think its a cheak making someone pay for a service they're not having.

Well the whole argument is probably pointless as i doubt they have cancelled the insurance rather deferred it until they get a new car. That way they can see through the rest of the term without an accident on the premium. (y)

I'd say having saved on the cost of replacing possibly both cars then the insurance has paid off very well

Some insurance companies have quite horrendous terms in wait for those that don't read the small print properly :(

..but one thing you can be certain of - the premium will be going up (n)

The one I saw was on Auto Trader and almost seemed too good to be true. The fact it had an old style grille, despite the fact that everything else seemed to shout latest spec., led me to think it might have had a repair at the front end.

Volkstu: Can you post some pics of yours as Mrs. B said she wouldn't mind a 1.6, but she's unsure about the colour. I'm assuming it's Broom Yellow?

Took all the paperwork to the insurance company today along with the spared key, handbook/service record and radio code. Got home and realised the rear parcel shelf was still in the spare bedroom.

So, if anyone wants a parcel shelf for a 3 door Stilo and can come and get it, let me know and it's yours. Just off J24 of the M60.

Call me a sting flint but when there was possibility of mum's Yaris being written off, before it went I removed everything that you didn't need a screwdriver to remove; parcel shelf, spare wheel and bits, hubcaps. Was gonna chuck them on eBay and make the difference of what they always give you and it costs to replace a car.

Luckily they repaired it though, so I had to waist another 30min re-fitting them :p

I'll call you a "Skinflint" or "Stingy" but I 've never heard of a sting fllint. Have you been drinking Broads water?

Anyway, I did take out the little double headed screwdriver. Might come in handy on my 'bike.

Its in the classifieds.

Its not quite as bright as broom yellow.

Body wise for its age, you will seriously struggle to find better. I am in the process of puting all of the trim back together as i took it out for the audio installation. I am awaiting on some mid range speakers to arrive and i have an amp ready to go in. It wont be silly loud but set up for a better quality sound than standard especially using the Altec lansing tweeters and xovers.

The uprated brakes might come in handy too lol.
