Hi Chaps, I have a Panda 2014 which has just passed its mot. There was one advisory, there is a slight oil leak on the rear diff. Not dripping just wet.

I’ve cleaned it off and it appears to be between the forward ‘nose’ casting and the two rear left and right halves where they meet.

I imagine that this is not an easy fix (unless I’m told otherwise) so I’m looking for a garage who specialise in my area (Blandford, Dorset) and rather than take pot luck I thought I’d ask the experts.

I have contacted a couple of places but they’re Land Rover specialists - probably more lucrative 😄😄😄

Any help / suggestions gratefully received.

Thanks

When it was 9 months old my 2013 4x4 developed a small leak there. As it was under warranty, the dealer fixed at no cost to me… but, at the time the only route to repair was a complete new rear diff (parts, seals etc were not listed separately. Note that the 312/319 4x4 was new to the market in 2012). Apparently that cost over £2000. I assume now that seals can be obtained but suspect the whole unit needs to come off the car to replace them. Maybe let it drip a while longer :)

This, from the parts catalogue, might be more positive - I think it's showing seals in the exploded views, and the part numbers might be those in the list on the right. This suggests the parts can now be bought separately

Thanks for the info, I don’t think the oil seals are leaking.

The oil is accumulating (what there is of it) between the front casting and the rear assembly of castings - and the flange where the two parts meet.

If I manage to get it serviced I think it would be a false economy not to replace all the seals.

Either way I think it’s a job for a specialist - any recommendations in the Blandford area please?

Thanks again 👍

Yes, I think you are right, the seals are now part numbered so I guess they’re all available but I think the leak is not an oil seal but a mating gasket so it will certainly need removal.

Leak is not dripping but ‘wetting’ the area at the bottom of the join. So I can take my time finding someone🤞👍

I don’t have a lift or ramps and I’m 70 so I think it will be a trip to the garage and if I can find a reputable one near by.

Thanks for the reply 👍

Why not pop over to Vale Motors at Wincanton and have a chat? They may not be specialists in rear diffs, but they've sucessfully looked after my little Panda for the last ten years. So, at least they've seen underneath one!
Thanks I could give them a go thanks 👍

I’ll call them and see what they say.
