Technical Radiator fan not kicking in

If the code is present, there's a good chance the ECU will not request even request the fans to come on

Does it clear then come back

If it doesn't clear

Will it clear with the relays removed

It clears and it only comes on when I trigger the fans by adding a negative to the trigger wire. I think the error comes up because I am changing the state of that line without the ecu. I could be wrong though.

Correct

Its detected the incorrect voltage from both speed 1 and 2, both wires between the ECU and relay are both okay, drives in the ECU are probably okay too

Once the ECU has detected the error, it will probably shut the fans off

You mentioned on of the other relays was getting warm, which one

The aircon relay got warm, but it seems fine now.

Is the radiator fan working with direct 12v?

Both speed one and two work correctly

If a ground is supplied to the control wire from the ECU to the relays

It's just for some reason the ECU isn't ground side switching the relays

I will not if it thinks there is a problem, but the codes clear okay

ECU isn't blown big time on the fan control as it can sense when the negative ground is injected and trips an error code p0480 and p0481 when this is done

Also confirming the wiring and pins at the ECU are correct

. It only triggers if I give the control wire negative from under the fusebox

I tested speed 2 as well. All wires check out. Fan switches on at high speed when bridged or when given negative at the trigger wire.

It's as if it's a software issue, I have seen something similar after a remap but that wasn't a Panda

As that wasn't my car I don't know if bidirectional software would still trigger the fans normally

Thank you for all the input. I found a way around the issue without fooling around too much with the original wiring or having a whole cluster of new wires and relays. I simply cut the trigger wire, bought an old combination thermostat housing, blocked off the breather pipe and screwed in a Honda fan switch with the same thread and picth as the heater pipe. It works perfectly. Switches on at 95 and off at 90. I currently only have it on speed 2. I will look for a fan switch that switches at 100 or 105 and wire that up to speed 2 with speed 1 on the current switch.
