It's anti-freeze time! I always get an airlock in the system when I drain the radiator of my 2006 Fiat Panda Active 1.1 . There are two radiator bleed valves to get the air out, but they aren't shown in the Haynes manual, so here are some pictures of them. The white stick is pointing at them.

Always good advice to check.:)
Another thing after draining and refilling is as engine is warming up and with level topped up and pressure cap tight I warm up engine at a fast idle around 1500rpm (I use a stick from seat to pedal) I check the temp. of the hoses so I can see when thermostat opens and water circulates around engine and heater hoses etc. If hoses not getting equally warm then check carefully at bleeder in case any air in system.
If thermostat working properly I find I can only hold the hoses for a short time before too hot and then I check temp gauge and expect it to be in the middle, roughly 90 degrees Centigrade.
Even down in sunny Devon I use 50% antifreeze concentrate so more if up North.:)
Also don't be conned by supermarkets and petrol stations selling "Ready To Use" Antifreeze and Screenwasher additive as all you are doing is buying water, you can get that from your tap at home!!!
If they sell it ready to use then it is probably only 50% to start with, so any extra water will mean weakening it so much it freezes.
I have seen enough engine blocks cracked and cars scrapped because of that, when a few quids worth of good antifreeze would have prevented it.
Check your vehicles coolant capacity, so if it says 12 litres then 6 litres of antifreeze is a minimum, I have spoken to many people who when asked have only put a couple of litres of antifreeze in at the most and been surprised when it has damaged the engine when frozen.
Even on screenwash, if weak then the water freezes and breaks the pump and splits pipes and jets.
Finally do not mix screenwash and antifreeze additives, they are not the same!!!
