If a helicopter hovers in the exact same place for 24 hours would he travel the world?! I'm tipsy so may make no sense

no, they'd run out of fuel and crash. :p no seriously they wouldn't because they're staying in the same place..... depends what air speed/location system they're using, but most would mean they wouldn't move around the earth, besides, it takes probably longer than 24 hours to travel around the world (in the earths atmosphere) by plane anyway..

i think he means about the earth rotating every 24 hours. so if the helicopter stays still, does the earth move beneath it and thus making it 'travel around the world'

ive never thought about it but it makes sense! but if it could be done it would have been done and we would know about it

unfortunate bear.

my question is, what can i use to duct an exhaust on my old MGB to which currently has the exhaust facing the house, to get it away from the house to stop it smelling of exhaust fumes? cheaply please? it's a carbed engine which appears to be running rich and not appreciating the smell in the house lol.

diy place flexi ducting will do, the metal one not plastic one

Basically no, when a helicopter/Harrier hovers they are placing themselves in a geostationary orbit (much like a satellite in space) so although they are using their engine to fight the gravitational pull towards the earth, they will still get pulled along with the rotational forces and remain above the same spot (which is why you don't have to reposition your Sky dish every 10 minutes!). As Munkul has said, if they want to travel around the circumference of the earth in 24 hours they would need to be doing ridiculous speeds!

I do like your thinking though.

yes.

theres a key difference between jet planes and satellites though. Jet planes use their own power to orbit in a geostationary position, whereas satellites are far enough away from the earth to "float" above the earth, but not completely free from gravity. They are constantly accelerating towards the earth's centre under the power of gravity, which causes them to orbit.

The effect of zero gravity is only apparent because they are in equilibrium - that is, the gravitational force is equal to the rate at which they are constantly accelerating.

IIRC anyways. its been a year or two since i did physics

Hi all,

I need a shirt, but not any old shirt, i'm a fussy bugger with a wedding to go to, and it's to go with my new suit, but can i find what i want? No!

Double cuff
Slim fit
Salmon pink (or just a nice pink - yes i'm in touch with my femanine side!)
15" collar

I've been around Clarks village (thats not a million miles away from me) and now had a troll on the interwebnet, but i cannot find the combo i'm after!

Anyone know/have one with a name i can look for?

Cheers

Tom

PS i'd need to by the weekend! :)
