S P E C S cameras (average speed cameras do not flash) these sneaky devices work out your speed between cameras over a distance there is a load of them in nottingham they look like little yellow video cameras usually mounted on blue poles first thing you know about being had is when the love letter from your local safety camera partnership lands on the mat
The camera cars that sit at the side of the road and get you coming or going: They Flash
The cameras on the freeways: they flash
The point to point ones: THEY DONT FLASH!!!! (i'm not aware of any in sydney, but they line the Hume Fwy from the outskits of Melbourne to just about Albury. There are parking spots for trucks that have been going a little fast just round the corner from all of these cameras. Drive fast, get to the park, wait, drive fast, park etc)
blu:devil:
if your av speed is higher than the 3kmh :bang: tolerance (in Vic at least) you get a window letter
There is no link to speed cameras saving lives. A speed camera will make you concentrate not on what is happening further down the road, but at your speedo, thus distracting you from the pedestrian that has just stepped out in front of youNo matter how the government tries to package it, the are revenue raisers that are notoriously inaccurate (see links below)
BTW, I saw a story on the CH7 News last night bout fines from a Sydney tunnel being recinded because of a F*&kup, sorry, administration error or something like that. I find more
blu:devil:
Yep - if iirc 10 000+ motorists got fined for speeding since it opened two months ago - obviously there is something really wrong about it!
Good to hear the government has finally backed down and waived the fines - I hope I can use the same argument if I get a fine from the Cross City Tunnel
Drive through camera 1 @ 30mph.
Pull over.
Wait.
Drive through camera 2 @ 130mph.
Laugh.
P.S. Don't do the above. It's naughty.
In Vic, a Datsun 120y was clocked at 143kmh, when it was taken to CAlder Park, Alan Moffat couldnt get it to do 110,
>a truck was clocked doing 170odd ks in the Burnley Tunnel, it ws speed restricted to 100
>and recently, a mbike rider was clocked doing 140odd leaving Phillip Island after the MOTOgp. His defence is that the wind resistance at that speed is too great to hang on;
ALL OF THESE were taken by the 'safety' speed cameras.

Was having a browse at the roadwatch.com.au forum and noticed people received fines 4+ weeks after the offence - wonder why it takes so long?
That means I have to worry for at least four weeks to see if my license has been suspended??
1week for the camera ppl to tell the fine ppl
1 week for the fine ppl to do something bout it
2weeks for Aus Post to send you the mail.
I quite like the NSW driving system. Sit 10/15km over the speed limit, then when you see the sign, slow down to the legal speed, then speed up once your past
