Can you spot the revenue raiser?

blu:devil:

more to the point:

can you spot the peson who knows what the limit is, and still exceeds it?
can you spot the whiner who despite knowing the cams are out there, and the limit on the road, still exceeds the limits, and bitches about it?

I know that there are cameras out there, and I do usually travel at/below the speed limit, but on the occasions when I do speed, I accept the risk that I may get caught.

WHAT I CANNOT accept is the way that the cameras are used and placed in order to catch ppl who are travelling safely (below/at/above) by themselves or in a pack.

what? at least have the balls, if not courtesy to say it....what it boils down to, time and again, is a lack of willing to take responsiblity for your own actions, if you didnt exceed the limit, you wouldnt be photo'd. where's the problem? the siting of the camera is irrelevant, the limit still applies on theother side of a bridge, round a corner, etc etc.

but no one has told you to stop speeding, you want to go faster, do it, by all means. but if you're caught, you can't whine about it, because you already know what the penalties are.

"whinging poms"? seems more like the usual moaning aussies.....

Relax man, I know my sense of humour is a bit dry but the :chin: was meant to be taken lightly.. I sped, if I get my license suspended for three months, then so be it.

But for argument's sake, 10,000+ people got caught speeding since a new tunnel opened in the space of two months under the exact same circumstances - 10,000+ people can't all be wrong!

Yes, they can. People don't like speed cameras because they're so good at what they do, catching speeders. They don't suggest whether the speed was dangerous; it's not necessary; it's the act of breaking the speed limit that's illegal.

Even if the authorities didn't make it clear what the legal speed limit is? These motorists' argument is, its suppose to be 80km/hr throughout the tunnel, but was changed to 40km/hr (due to (invisible) roadworks) without adequate signs/notices and are getting fined for it. Try telling these people they're wrong..

I think speed cameras should deter people from speeding, but must be done in a fair way.

Well I can't comment on a specific situation in a country on the other side of the world...if there's inadequate signage I presume the fines would be repaid like in the UK.

The government did a massive backflip the day after they said motorists should pay or fight in court - now people who went between 40 - 80km/hr will have their fines/points returned.

If I get fined I might fight for the same (different tunnel but same circumstances)..

When we here south of the border had our major uprisong against the cameras, they refunded just about every fine that people sent back to them. Even for unaffected cameras. The catch was that if you were eligible to have a refund, YOU had to send it back, not them sending out the refund to everyone entitled to one.

Of course! They will never, as long as they don't have a conscience, go through every single fine and work out which ones are legit and which ones aren't.

Have you actually recieved a fine yet, or is this all 'hypothetical'?

blu:devil:

Not yet, but being a worry-wort (Turbodiesel, fiatdownunder, T et al can testify that :D) I can feel one coming - other tunnel users have already been stung by it.

I was right - got the speeding fine today - 52km/hr in a 40km/hr zone. Good news is, it wasn't as bad as I thought because I was doing almost 80km/hr, which meant almost a AUD600 fine and three months suspension. All I'm getting is a slap on the wrist of AUD77 and three demerit points.

I've never been so happy getting a fine!! :D

Lol what do you say to this? Congratz? lol weird situation.

To carry on the debate on these yellow box like cash machines, I agree that no matter what country your from there should be fair warning. A section of the A449 down here in Wolverhampton has speed cameras without any signs and they cause loads of accidents. As its a long straight road thats only 40mph people zoom down it, see the camera at the last minute and slam they're brakes on. Caused lots of shunts.

They are aimed at reducing accidents but they cause so many. Really they are just another way for the government to by us off the roads to reduce conjestion. Boost car tax, fuel prices, increase hours learners must learn, increase test prices, make 17yr old lads pay an arm and a leg for insurance and then introduce conjestion charges and tolls. Something tells me in years to come the roads will be for the rich only:(

this is one of the main arguments used against speed cameras, they dont slow traffic down, they just make people slam their brakes on before the camera, which increases the chance of accidents. as soon as you're past the camera you speed up again. how does that benefit anyone?
