Punto power steering riddle

Hi everybody,
For my sins I own a 2005 Punto 1.2 16V with the usual powersteering failure. I acquired a used but guaranteed column and transplanted themotor and ecu. Guess what, no change. Does it have to be calibrated by a maindealer or is it something I can do? Or is it possibly torque sensors (whateverthey are) Help please as It is a really nice car and I am on the verge ofhaving it crushed?

ok, so what fault codes did you have with the old unit in the car?

IF the new one is showing the same, then it's unlikely to be the same fault in both - more likely an electrical supply fault,
you should be able to get the sensors back in trim with MultiECUScan.

Meant to ask, does the steering need to be calibrated by a main dealer before it will work?

Get your alternator tested to make sure its putting out full power.

Any power fluctuations whatsoever, the first to be affected is the Power Steering.

the steering ECU "SHOULD" store fault codes - pointing to the specific component failure..so you know which parts to test / change,

no codes often means it's just down to a poor power supply

most common failures ( and thankfully cheapest) are:

1, Battery
2, Alternator,
3, Wiring / Earth

followed by suspect soldering in the torque sensors

before ANY component / unit expenditure.

Hi there, I've got some fault codes now. it was showing P1702 and U1602.
said it was possibly the D4 connector. We cleared the codes. I found the connector, took it out blew it and put it back. Found the fuses and did the same. I still get the power steering failure message comes up when I start the car and the little red steering wheel light stays on all the time, but the pas seems to be working? U1602 has now come back. Any help there please?
