Hi.
I got my first car a few months ago T reg Punto 1.2 60sx
As from the thread title some git(s) broke into it probably by screwdrivering the ds lock. The key still works in the lock and locks the car ok.
When they broke into the car they removed the panels under the steering column and pulled off the igniton barrel. They must have given up after realising they cant start the car without the immobiliser shut off.
I have no igniton barrel there now because it was no-where to be found when I found the car like that, the top part of the switch is there and so is the sensor so i can still start and run the car fine by holding the key to the sensor and turning the top metal part of the switch, im guessing thats where the barrel slots into.
Im now getting to the point where its annoying me that I cant put the key in the ignition and have no idea how this will affect my next MOT.
I still have my red key and my 2 blue keys which came with my car.
All I really need is a new igniton barrel and possibly some surrounding parts as ive not seen others before so i dont know if anything else is needed.
Im trying to figue out which way will be my cheapest, i dont mind if I have one key for my ds lock and one for my igniton. Im figuring from reading the sticky on this topic that my best way to go is to get another barrel and new key for said barrel then use the programming method using my red key to get the new key's code to be added to my approved key list and accepted by my ECU.
Any thoughts on this idea, or any better ones. I could spend up to £100 getting it done but would rather not spend that much if I can help it.
ps: after it happened i noticed that if i turned the ignition switch back as far as it would go, like i would with the key then my front lights would come on, if I put it forward one position they would go back off again, regardless of whether on not I had turned the lights on/off myself. Im guessing its not supposed to go back that far to positon -1, because if I put it to the next one then I can lock the steering, just trying to check this out I dont want to fit a new barrel then have the lights come on when I take the key out.
