Anyone know of any (preferably red) cinqs being broken?

When i was rustproofing the car (finally done), around the passenger side wing was always pretty rusty, seemed to have got worse. Car has defo had a small bump at some point, aside from the signs of a buckle to the front bumper mount and overspray on one of the old headlights, the P/s wing was missing the front retaining bolt and seems the wing was replaced with a cheap pattern part. Long story short, it's finished and needs replaced. To make that rust free would take a **** load of work and then repainting. So might as well start again with a sound wing.

Like everything body wise on this car, it's been done on the mega cheap in the past. Aside from the bootlid and spoiler not being lacquered (who the hell thinks that's a good idea?), just filler being used on the smoothed part rather than a plate being tacked in before the filler goes in to smooth (or even a fiberglass patch ffs... amateur), the overspray of paint on headlights... now we have a cheapo front wing who's entire rust protection consists of "well... we'll paint it red".

It's seemingly not even primed ffs!, you can pull off paint and it's bare metal!

1.4 16v :)

can already see the big issue will be the exhaust, but unless a supersprint mani comes up, i'm stuck and will need to adapt 1 of 3 possible solutions

how hard can it be? :D

No need, most the exhaust can be re-used, it's already pretty free flowing, has a sports cat, all of the correct diameter.

The problem is more with mounting the manifold onto the head then mating it up to what i have. On the head of the 1.4, you have 2 options really, a supersprint (or similar, though very few others fit because of the lack of depth available, almost everything fouls), or use the standard Stilo (or punto) Mani-cat... modify it with an angle grinder. Though these are **** too. There is a vague option of basically decatting a mani-cat to make it fit, then modifying my existing setup to hook up to it, but that's not plan a.

The plan is (seemingly one that has never been done on this engine) to use a mk1 punto 1.2 16v exhaust manifold. The ports line up, but only some of the bolts (4 from 9) do for the head. The plan is to modify the manifold to allow a couple of other bolts to connect up, then make and mount 2 3 or 5mm thick steel brackets across the outside of the manifolds stud holes, drill holes in this and mount it via the bolt holes that do line up on the head. This will then allow me to take up the difference under the bracket with offcuts from my old 8v mani and basically pin the rest of the manifold to the cylinder head by using the remaining studs that don't line up with the manifolds :)

That will then allow me to use a standard mk1 16v punto downpipe and with a bit of chopping of my old exhaust and the downpipe, have a flexi welded in (my old system dudn't have one and kept tearing the exhaust away from the manifold) between that and the cat

In theory, that should work... it's a bit experimental but hey ho

Hell yeah :D if it fails, it fails and i'll go a different way with the exhaust :) . Really need to get my hands on the engine and manifold first to see if i'll 100% go that way with it, but there's no reason why it shouldn't work in theory :D

Can you not just cut the flange off the correct manifold and weld it to the one you want?

That's a fallback position :) i'm trying to avoid welding as much as a can because i don't have a welder and all the local ones take an age to do anything and not sure how good they are. I also don't really trust re-welded manifolds, but the fact i'm putting a flexi in should lessen the chance of damage or weakening welds and leaks happening!

If you get one lined up and marked out, when you are next up near hq... I will weld it for you

I will need a couple days notice tho so I can take along my mates welder

Due to a delivery **** up, the engine that was supposed to be here Friday is now coming tomorrow. Maybe... if they can remember to put it in the lorry this time.

Still don't have my inlet manifold or loom, again, delivery seems to be the holdup..... frustrating but not a lot i can do except wait and keep complaining until things get here

Engine finally got here, via Edinbirgh, a trip to newcastle and another run around edinburgh. Delivery services eh?

And it turns out they place i bought it from have sent me the wrong engine, they've delivered the 1.2 16v rather than the 1.4 16v i ordered.....

Never mind, might not be a "bad" thing. Given i'm running on a 1.2 16v ecu and currently have a brava fuel rail with 1.2 injectors, i might be able to get that running sweeter earlier than i would have the 1.4 (which some folk running on the 1.2 ecu have found a bit hesitant and really needing the ecu remapped or running a standalone like megasquirt to cure fully), So i'm not too fussed tbh :)

nice to hear its still going on :D

another note the new car will be here on friday :D cant wait to try the engine in it out :D ill give you a holler on friday and see if you want a shot :D

actually yeah and since it was only a runabout put it into mates in edinburgh and since it needs the usual pug crappy rear axle replaceing im getting shot and saving for a new car :D but for time being my dad is giving me his spare car :D

ill let you have a peek at the engine bay ;)
