Fantastic work, having a completely bare shell must make it a joy to weld, no waxoyl running down whilst your welding and you don't have to spend half your time cleaning off paint and rust!

I've noticed a few Pandas with the fracture on the B pillar, isn't it because the metal is stretched too much when it is pressed?

Good call (y) Yes I'm sure you're right, I can't see that area being particularly stressed in use.

Yes Alan's being spoilt with this one, but he'll be back in the real world soon.

On my trekking the fractures on both B pillars are few cm each :) and growing... What is interresting marbella has slightly different shape of the B pilar, around where the fracture occurs, the pressing in the steel is shallower there. There is a "bulge" , not present on a panda pillar.

Vern and assistant.

What more can I say than fantastic job

HOWEVER, if your is a good one what the hell are ours like under the mud?

Pease can you enlightten me as to what grade and thickness of steel you are using as I am obvoiusly going to need a lot of practice.
Dave

I think there's you could make a DVD movie out of this one Vern!
Pandawoman's going to be very happy I am sure.
You have made some quite intricate cuts there to get behind panels. What method of cutting do you use?

Dave - We use 1mm sheet steel, I think it's somewhere between 18 and 20 gauge.

Andy - We use tin snips or an air powered cutting disc (1mm thick). The disc is good for straight cuts and the tin snips for corners. (y)

Well Alan's been working on the MK4 badges the last couple of days, now that"s finished Bucket is ready to go back for E coating, hopefully next Monday as long as I don't total the tow vehicle (Oslo) on the Yorkshire moors this weekend :(.

Here's some pics of the Frenching process............

I was going to use an engineering firm to tig weld them in to the C pillars as tig welding would be less likely to distort the thin C pillar metal, but we decided that if Alan gave a break between each couple of tacks to allow things to cool down we should be able to do it ourelves with my mig. As it turned out there was no problem at all.

So, love it or loathe it, there they are, hope you like it Julie! Where's a biting finger nail smiley when you need one :p.

I've got to say that I was utterly impressed by the quality and accuracy of the work put into these... -- and I may yet change my mind (again) as to how they'll look on the finished article.... :chin:

As I said to VmanC and Alan (Robin, to Vernon's Batman...!?), the Italian flag will break up all the black, quite nicely... -- and I think the positioning is spot on.... Just not convinced -- sorry, pandawoman -- that the Mk4 logo works on a Mk2. I may yet be wrong, though....

hi......i know its a bit controversial putting the mk4 badges on a mk2 panda....but then i am a bit eccentric and i like the look of them ( put it down as being a girly choice) and as you say it will break up the black......and as bucket seems to evade being photographed when out it might be only the badges that appear in future attempts . how spooky would that be,just a badge seemingly in mid air for no reason. hope you change your mind and end up liking them.

hi vern......dont worry they look great (in my opinion)....excellent job by you and alan. do i get a discount for providing alan with such a nice clean chassis to work on? it must have made the whole cutting and welding stuff a bit easier to do. bit of a step up from all the duct tape that used to hold my old panda together.

Batman and Robin building a black car for Pandawoman, has a certain logical ring to it don't you think? ;) Has me thinking now though, don't be surprised if Bucket shoots flames out the back when he pulls away. :p

Pleased you like the frenching Julie (y)

In a way you do get a discount as the work would have taken twice as long without being stripped, did that sound convincing?

Hmm, I think it's a bit like this down at Droxford, including the fuel system checking (hence the flames)? :p

I do like the idea of a stealth Panda... -- reminds me of a book about an invisible aeroplane, that I read many, many moons ago...! :)

Anyhoo: each to her and his own. If we all liked exactly the same things, then the world would be a very boring place indeed... -- although perhaps we'd all be driving round in Pandas...! :D

The badges do look good, though, in situ -- even on bare metal; and I have no problem with them being there, at all. I will reserve final(ish) judgment until everything is finished.... (y)

nice try vern......you cant blame a girl for asking.

Re-Frenched in badges.

It was my idea you know, you know, you know!

Well if you didn't you do now
Dave

Vern
Looks fabulous.
Thanks for the info on the steel gauge used
