Yeah, but I'd not expect them to be any more effective than a properly used G cramp.

If they're not the "wind in" (as opposed to "push in") type pistons (which have indentations to allow a "wind in" (rotates as it pushes in) tool to engage, then I'd suspect that they're the calipers for a non-vented disk (which will be substantially narrower).

If you can find the manufacturer's part number on them, it may be possible to check against their catalogue (if you can find it on line).

yeah but the piston still sits flush in them, and the pads are a few mm bigger for vented so dont fit in the slider of non vented,

calipers with new seals are blooming tight fit so if all he using to tighten the clamp is his fingers then that might not be enough

if thats the case.........................

No, I have used a G clamp. The pistons are not moving in at all. My dad's had ago as well, he's an engineer and he used to build rally cars in his spare time so we've already tried lots of stuff! As suggested, I'm gonna take the pistons out to have a look.

I'll post some dimensions of the calipers tomorrow so hopefully someone should be able to tell me. The sliders are definately from a 1.8 hlx tho.

If they don't fit then I'll just have to buy some that do! Sod it, it's only money :(

Right, they are definately from a 1.6

For future reference the 54/12 on the caliper means:

the diameter of the piston (same for both 1.6 and 1.8)/the width of the disc (20mm on the 1.8 and Punto GT).

So for the bigger discs you need calipers with 54/20.

My local scrappy are idoits. It even says 1.8 on the receipt, they probably thought there wouldnt be a difference and they could get away with it :(

You could try selling them to make a bit of cash back as they are really nice now treated, perhaps someone wants a 1.6 disc conversion on there car? I'd try and get something back off the scrapyard, tell them as you've paid to have them remanufactured etc you want to keep them but want some 1.8's at a greatly reduced cost or free casue you'll need them remanufactered as well.

Worth a try!

And if they give you **** get on to trading standards!

Yeah, they are look much better in real life as well. I'll be putting an add up soon caus they'll just sit around getting in the way if not.

I'll definately be going up the scrappy for a word or two... and in my defence the part number on the caliper was un-readable until I had them cleaned up, so no way of knowing other than what the scrappy told me
