General Power steering gone

Hi,
I HAVE 2000 REG PUNTO MK 2.
the power steering motor was replaced about 4 years ago.
In the last year the power steering would go on and off intermitally.
Now its gone completely,i want a cheap fix so should I get a second hand
motor and try that first,
any suggestions welcome,dont have a way of checking faults.

U need to get atleast a fault code
Go to a garage and ask for a diagnostic code to be pulled so you know whats up

The motor and ecu could be fine
It could be a speed sensor issue
It could be a canbus error
It could be a torque/steering angle issue

if you can beg borrow or steal a motor from a model before 02 try it
it was always the motor
i used to fit the lower steering sections to post 03 puntos because the motors were better but the torque angle gizmos used to fail

strange,the power steering is working again and the light on the dash has
gone off,would this indicate its more than likely the electric motor needs changing????????
