I have a 1.2 8v Punto Active (2002 model, owned from new, now on 44,500 miles) which has already had a replacement ECU (fitted under warranty) after approx 20 months/36,000 miles. On two occasions in the last month the engine has simply died. The clock/trip meter/mpg computer gets reset and the car simply will not start - engine turns over OK but there's no life on the ignition side of things. After approx 20 mins, and several attempts to start the engine finally starts and runs smoothly, but the amber ECU light remains on. The next time I try to start the car it's as if nothing had gone wrong - the only indication I have that there was a problem is that the clock is not correct and the trip meter shows the miles travelled since the eng9ine cut out.
I've searched this forum and elsewhere and I cannot find any other reports of this particular problem. Does anyone have any suggestions as to possible causes and solutions?
Regards,
Baldsimon.
