Hello Everyone. I have a problem with my 2010 1.4 500C. After anything from 1 day to 2 weeks the dash warning light comes when driving. My local garage have been looking at it and can't work it out. The Fault code is P181D. Which they tell me it's to do with the gear natural switch/sensor. The have reset it a number of times and have now just replaced the switch/sensor and rest it again but it has just come back. They say that it will need to go to a fiat main dealer who want over £100 just to look at it. Has any one else had this problem as any help would be really appreciated. Many thanks.

Hello and welcome to the forum.

Sorry to hear of your difficulties.

Unfortunately trying to fault find a Fiat using generic scanning tools is generally a losing game.

You need better diagnostics than you'll find in most general purpose independent garages. MultiECUscan (google it) will do the job for less than a single main dealer diagnostic; alternatively you could try to find an independent Fiat specialist.

It's possible someone local to you may be able to help out; many of us here have a working copy of multiecuscan. Whereabouts are you located?

I also have a P181D code....this is accompanied by 'check engine light' and 'Generic warning light' (yellow triangle).

This code was given to me by a main FIAT dealer....the actual code on the report was "P181D-64 for neutral gear position"

PS They cleared the codes and said to 'monitor'.....cost me £89 (what a con!!)
