Hey guys I want to make my car as quick as possible. These are the changes I have in mind... (BTW I DONT want to use nitrous)...

K&N Airfilter
K&N Induction Kit
High Lift Camshafts

Please add any you feel appropriate. Thanx in advance for any feedback.

I'll post the obligatory question...

What engine do you have?

I have K&N, SS exhaust & cams, with only an increase of 8-9bhp on a HGT, so don't expect huge gains. Currently saving up for the chip.

To be honest i don't know what cams they actually are, the guy in the garage ordered them for coupe owner who either never turned up or changed his mind, he seemed to think they were abarth cams, but i have never been able to find anything on the net about them (i didn't even bother trying to find out at Fiat).

They have seemed to make a difference mid range, but not much extra (maybe a little) bottom end, but i'm sure my cars slighly slower top end.

I'm pretty sure the K&N and exhaust didn't give me 9bhp, maybe +1/2bhp for both combined at most, so they have done something...the little increase in torque has also helped.

MODS(bound not to be brief if its nico!)

I don't know much about 'going faster' be it top end or torque.
I don't even know how fast my car goes (havn'd had it above 120 so far). In fact I took a lot of stick when I first began posting on here, cos I'd never changed gear at much more 2000rpm (never saw the need to really). Then I bought my HGT, and all that began to change! It's tranformed me, not just my driving.

Anyhoo, I've uprated to a Jetex Exhaust (prob as good as a Supersprint)and Viper enclosed induction kit (..bored many to tears about in past threads). I grow a little more daring each month, as I learn a little more about what the car is capable of. Only now can I begin to give an objective (if still somewhat limited)assessment as to what difference it has made.

Before these mods, it would, very hesitantly, just about reach 80pmh in 3rd. Now (as steadily, I'm willing to open her up more and more) she'll seat 60 in 2nd and sails smoothly through that 80phr to 90in 3rd without yet coming anywhere near the red.

Daring for the likes of me, this is no boubt mundane to many of you who REALLY floor it, but I can't express the awe & admiration my motor makes me feel!

Re: MODS(bound not to be brief if its nico!)

Nico, none of the mods you did changed the gear ratios. If it gets to 90 without going past redline now then it would have done exactly the same before :)

And 60 in 2nd is nowt to boast about, my 1.6 does that ;) 80 in 3rd is doable too without running out of revs. She gets wheezy much over that.

If VJ has a 1.8 (Really would help if people gave the correct info in the first post!) then some C&B fast road cams (there is more to cams than just more lift, fast road cams are usually the same lift as stock cams) and a piggyback would be the best route.

Little point spending the £6-800 to buy and fit the cams and not spend the extra few hundred to get the car setup properly on the rollers with a piggyback.

A better option would be to start with a piggyback and see what gains there are and then do the cams.

Re: MODS(bound not to be brief if its nico!)

Hey, not bad for me tho!
I tried that once, before, seeing how fast she'd go in third (prompted to try when my brother asked) but I really didn't dare go above 80 cos you could tell the engine wasn't happy by reluctance in the revs, but now I don't even notice the needle fly through 80.

Yeah sorry guys it is a 1.8hlx 1999 v reg. Thanx for all the posts, everyone is just so helpful. Cheers
