Hi All,

Over a month ago I had a huge bin liner wrapped around my exhaust. I noticed it when I thought my engine was smoking but it was actually the bag melting.

Now, a month on, with no visible signs of it, it still stinks of burning plastic and has drawn the attention of passers by who were quick to point out 'my car smells like its burning'.

I can't see anything, and there's no smoke or anything.

Any ideas?

you'll need to look for the remains of it, should burn itself out though
you do many long trips?

as with all things plastic, when it burns it likes to fuse itself and create a hard substance thats pretty :bang: to remove as it will be like hard glue

have another good look and try to locate it, will most likely be residue

Yeah I can't see anything else there, so maybe inside the exhaust? I thought it would have burnt out by now though as above. I've done 1000 miles + since I found it. Yeah do a few long trips mate :) did one this weekend.

I'll testify to it baking on like glue.
I once got a poly bag on the bike exhaust.
Took for ever to get rid of it.

Presuming onces it hardens it becomes more resilient to heat?

Yeah, it just turns into an invincible coat of hardened blob.

Odd that it hasn't gone away though. Even after a massive trip.

Let me know how you get on buddy (y)

If you do find it, go at it with a razor blade, best way to get rid of it, again, it will take time and much TLC, but to stop the pong its worth it :slayer:

Love it.

Only you forgot to mention "Brown" which probably doesn't matter on a rusty car exhaust, tucked underneath, but on a nice shiny set of bike headers it's gutting.
Eventually it will drop off, but could take a few days, depends on how many miles you do really.
